Post subject: | 7" Disc Brake Caliper Seals? |
Hi everyone, A little bit of conflicting information out there, re where the narrower and wider seals go in the calipers. See there are the two rubber seals and the metal retainer for the 7" discs. ![]() An online video for the 8.4" disc says the narrower seal sits in the channel and the wider seal is used on the outer side, held in by the metal retainer. The 4 pot Metro caliper how-to on Ausmini indicates that the wider seal sits in the channel and the narrower one is the "wiper" seal held by the retainer. Anyone able to confidently clarify this for the 7" brakes by any chance? Thanks. |

Yes I have done 7" ones before. The wide plain section one is the fluid seal. The narrow one with the internal ribs is the dust seal. To fit the dust seal: Fit it into the metal retainer. Leave piston sticking out 6 mm or more. Slide dust seal over piston. Ensure the retainer is sitting against the body evenly. Press or tap it in square with a tool recessed to fit over the piston. I used nylon but alloy, steel etc will do. |
