OK Mo blew a welsh plug leaving a gaping big hole in the side of the engine... ![]() I have been advised this is not a problem and all I need to do is flush out the engine (where the water goes round to get any remaining fragments of a disintegrated plug out) and then pop in a new plug. 1. is this correct 2. do I need to "cement" it in, or are these things just plugs 3. If my previous plug has disintegrated in the engine, is there any way to ensure its all cleaned out..??? |

it felll out, but there was no "cup shape" to it, it was just like a slightly curved 20c piece (but much bigger). and yeah, it was sitting on the flywheel cover, and a bighole was left ![]() |

There are two different types of plugs fitted to minis, the cup type and the dish type and one of them is hopeless! Can you guess which one you have? They don't just push in, they are hammered in. ![]() When you knock them in it is supposed to flatten them slightly which it supposed to increase the diameter to hold them tight. But it don't work real well! |

While on the topic of welsh plugs... I've been told that to properly flush the oily crap out of my cooling system I need to remove the welsh plugs. How hard is this to do and is there a writeup of how to do it? |

If one has popped out....you should be suspicious about the others...if it was me I would replace the lot. Molina...do you have a sharp screwdriver that can be hammered?? Just put the sharp edge in the centre of the Welsh Plug and give it a descent whack...when the screw driver punctures the Welsh Plug you can then wangle the plug out... clean up the area for the new plug to be drifted in.... |

Last time I saw one of those pop out (kazjim's 998 turbo) it turned out (eventually) that the radiator cap was too long for the rad neck, and wouldn't open under pressure. So the pressure got out thru a welch plug.. and a rad hose... and another rad hose... ![]() Bought a new cap lately? Make sure it is the right one for your radiator. Oz ones are different length to many UK ones. |
