Did Morris 1100 'S' 1275cc motors come standard with 9 or 11 stud holes in the block? Ive recently taken off the head from mine and found that it has the two extra stud holes drilled and tapped ( same size and thread of other 9 studs ) From memory the extra 2 Cooper S bolt/stud where a narrower in diameter than the other 9. If this is true what size were they? |

no, 1100"S" engines were all 9 stud,,, so someone will have "added" the 2x more, & quite commonly they simply add the 2x extras as 3/8ths like all the others, not an issue at all really |

Isn't one of them a standard stud, the other being a small bolt near the thermostat housing? (Don't over torque the bolt like I did once!) |

Yes front one on an S is 5/16 UNC and was helicoiled. But if I add them to an 1100S block I just tap it 5/16 UNC without helicoiling. And don't drill right through or you will have to seal the thread against water leakage. |

Thanks. The fact that someone has drilled the extra holes makes sense, as they don't line up well with the gasket or my new 11 stud cylinder head. Had to offset mill the 2 stud holes in my new head ![]() |
