I have several crownwheels marked 17/62.

Is it ok to match an 18 tooth pinion with the crownwheel mark 17/62?

If not why not?

No.
Because the 18T pinion is bigger diameter. The 62T crown wheel that belongs with it is slightly smaller than yours, and a different part number.
Pinions are interchangeable, but crown wheels are specific to one ratio.

If the 62T crown wheel has no identifying marks, how do you ID it as being an 18/62 crown wheel?

Part number is stamped near the bolt holes. 22A 411.
The one that goes with a 17T pinion is stamped 22G940.

If there isn't a stamped number visible is there a physical way of identifying the crown wheel be it 22G940 or 22A411.

I've worked it out guys. The 18/62 diameter is less than the 17/62 crown wheel.

Moving on.

Which model BMC/Leyland front wheel drive cars used the 18/62 diff ratios?

Very common, most of my collection of bits have the 3.44 ratios.

Which model BMC/Leyland front wheel drive cars came out of the factory using the 18/62 diff ratios?

I answered your question above. Add any Clubman style Mini with a rodchange box including Mini S, Mini SS, 998LS, 1275LS.
Were not used on Morris 1100S cars.

Just moving on, - I noticed that the crownwheel I refitted this arvo was stamped 18/62 on two sides, so it could be obvious?
