Post subject:  Interesting Race Wheels.

Improved Production is a control tyre category (A032R) thry dont make Ao32R tyres for 12" wheels so we run 10" wheels. But this guy on the weekend seems to have aome up with a great idea (And this is my guess as I didnt get a chance to catch up with him). Aussie legend race cars also run A032R tyres as a control tyre. Looks like this guy is running Aussie race car wheels and tyres - looks quite good.

So bring on the guys who are going to say how bad it mst handle. Mad matt runs 13" wheels on his new blue and he doesnt seem to have much trouble.

Does that car have Mini suspension on the back, or a beam axle? Wheels look a bit big to fit with radius arms.... 8)

Thanks for lightening the photo - not one of my best shots

I dont know. I saw it in the pits over the weekend but had a squillion things on and didnt get a chance to drop by. Didnt get to see the cars full potential either - seemed to suffering a few reliability woes.

THere are rumours going around taht there could be up to 5 minis running in the under 2 ltr Championship next year.

I have seen the car. the rear is tubbed. and the wheels are massive with a lagre offset. look at the track width. notice the inside of the wheel is outside the normal width of a mini

If you take a close look at most of those cars, they are axle beams with no subframe or radius arms, like what doc said. There are heaps of them out there with eye popping mods backend

I didn't think you were allowed to change the suspension points in improved production?

Last time i looked you could move the suspension mounting points by up to 75?mm something like that anyway. But the subframe would have to still be there, and there are restrictions on how much you can widen the track too.

you can cut away up to 100mm of metal around the wheel arch to clear the tyres, but tubbing is not permitted last time i looked. Also unsure if his flares are within the width limit for IP, i think it was 50mm a side? but is that the factory flares +50mm?

i think this guy is seriously pudhing the limits of the rules. interesting to see who protests if he wins anything

When we were at wakefield park some minis were running 16V honda civic conversions let alone no subframe

The mini from the above picture is one of the Brookvale Mini and Moke sponsored duo... See the sticker above the rear wheel arches?

68 Delux

You are talking about two completly diffirent categories of racing. What you saw at Wakefield Park was Super Minis (Like Sports Sedans) very loose rules, Fibreglass guards, perspex windows, hybrid motors, fat tyres, slicks etc. The car pictured is running Under 2 Ltr Improved production a competely diffirent category. This is a State Championship Category and it uses the production car as its base. Tight rules, control tyre etc.

I will pull out my CAMS book when I get home and confirm te rules re suspension pick up points.

Ummmm.....Aussie Racing Cars are getting a name as being an increasingly expensive way to go racing....

I wouldn't go looking there for bargains if I were you :?
