A little bit can be normal if the car has been sitting around or not driven long/hard enough to warm the motor up enough to drive out any condesation. Check the coolant - if it looks similar then your up for a new head gasket ![]() |

Or Put the car in neutral and let it idle. Go to the radiator and take the cap off. If air bubbles come up through your radiator coolant more chance than not, it's the head gasket. OR If the cars hard to start, idling badly and using a lot of water. ![]() |

Simple answer: Not enough crank case ventilation I've seen 3 clubbies now that have this symptom. Cure: Install tappet cover breather, rocker cover breather, flywheel housing breather, Take it for a LONG drive to Newcastle this weekend for the run and swap meet and she will be fine! ![]() Better still install a PCV and never have the problem again |

How does that affect the cooling system... how does the oil get into the water? ![]() |

Yes I wasn't seeing things. Ask the Doc. When you burn fuel, you produce small amounts of water vapour which, if not vented properly, gathers up and forms sludge. On a correctly vented engine this does not happen. I will say no more until you hear it from the Doc's own mouth ![]() Signed: the apprentice ![]() |

i would think that there would also have to be emulsified oil on the rockers too if the head gasket was blown? |

It coats everything... betty has the bad case of Mayo! Still trying to recover from it... 2 crank case vents should do it. OT Makka: do Betty a favour and open up/connect the tappet cover breather that is blocked up. This should free up the ventilation enough for her to burn all that mayo off. Next time I see her I will take the rocker cover off and clean the whole thing, I have a spare rocker cover gasket or two. |

![]() Also make sure you have a vented oil cap. I believe most pollution control Minis had the non vented variety and they tend to collect mayo a lot more. Mine had one (even though it's a 65 ![]() |
