Post subject:  question about strip below roof gutter

G'day,
as rust had got the better of the strip that sort of flares out below the roof gutter on one of my deluxes i decided to rip it off(see pic below),
Image
is there any reason i need to source a new one to replace? as it doesnt seem to do anything and looks to be quite rust prone

cheers
Mark

Late UK cars didn't have it anyway. Ha-Ha has the LH one on still, I'll lose that when I paint it. 8)

A fella down here has ground the seam down by about half....then filled the fillets and generally smoothed it all up.

It is not de-seamed, but the seams are more subtle and it looks quite nice :D

Yeah they are only spot welded every 4" or so, great place for rust to hide. And a bastard to fix if it sets in.
It's not a drip rail really, as there's a full gutter above it- I think they were put on maybe for roofrack mount strength??

yeah. i don't really see how they stop water frop dripping on to the windows. lol

i think there was more rust under mine then the rest of the car...

nothing a hour of wire wheeling and rust treating did not fix. then add some primer and a little stop putty when the old spot welds were.. and all smooth as a babys ass.

yeah before deciding to remove them i "thought" i had done a good job of treating the rust, but once i removed them it showed a very different story. supprisingly there was no rust on the gutter it was attached to??
The only other spot with rust is the rear beaver, i'll have to get a new one of these though, not happy cause whole car cost $100 delivered and just one panel's gunna cost nearly that!

Hey guys at least you can still get panels, NEW, for a 30 or 40+ year old car. Try getting panels for a 1969 Fiat 124S coupe....
