Post subject: | Welders - MIG |
Okay so i'm looking round at MIG welders. Ever since my Year 11 metalwork welding course finished, i've wanted a welder of my own. I had a look into OXY, but decided MIG was the better option - no rental of bottles, cleaner, more versatile, etc. So i looked at this on the net just before: (this is arc, yes i'm stupid) http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=702 And yeah this dealsdirect place is reputable; lots of my mates have bought things from them and they've been delivered a couple of days later and no problems, etc. All views welcome Thanks. (edit: stupidness) |

Forget it, willy. it's an ARC welder, not a MIG welder. Uses stick electrodes, not wire. Got one the same at work for site jobs. Useless for welding body panels. ![]() |

DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING IN METAL WORK CLASS>>?? ![]() you are saying you want a gassless mig yes? that a arc welder. NOT THE SAME THING... Same brand welder in a gassless mig is around the same price at supercheep dude. I got 1 work fine for small things. so do you want arc? or mig? or gassless mig? ![]() |

![]() I read gasless on a page there somewhere and assumed it was MIG, but i posted it as arc. Yeah arc welding is crap. What does one pay for a decent gas/gasless MIG welder these days? |

We only used gassed MIG and weren't told of the disadvantages of gasless mig. The only advantage that he could tell me was that there is a difference in cost. Yeah... good one Mr. Teacher. And makka... what year did you drop out in? |

gassless are cheeper. no good for heavy work. don't smell the fumes from the dam thing or you will have a KILLER HEADACHE for days.. all depends on what you want to do..... and how big your wallet is. |

Um yeah i can weld MIG, Arc, and Oxy. But can you TIG? Have you ever tried it? I've tried it, and was only allowed to do it once, same as every oen in the class - pov school wouldnt let us weld any more with it! ![]() |

My son has just completed high school metal work up to year 12 and let me be the first to tell you he can't weld. He can stick two pieces of metal together and he built a trailer in the final year but he CANNOT weld. He topped the year in metal work so it goes to show what the standards are like in schools. Don't kid yourself about your skills, it takes years to become a proficient welder. Buy a gas MIG and don't muck around with anything less. I have welded TIG and did get a pressure ticket for it. This took much practise to perfect one weld to the required standard. |
