Hi all, Taking my 1975 1100cc out for a run this afternoon, noticed that I couldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd or 4th. Got the car home and while stationary, could get to 3rd and 4th but the range of shift was significantly shorter (seemed like it was about an inch but definitely didn't feel right. Second gear synchro has been gone for some time prior to this. Any ideas? |

check underneath the car while someone else changes gear - there's a cylindrical thing about 2" long that links the rod from the gearstick to the back of the gearbox. If that's wobbling around or about to lose a roll pin then it'd probably do what you describe number 19 in this picture

Also make sure that your shifting mechanism is still assembled correctly and hasn't come,loose from the car. From inside the car, take off the gearbox boot (part no 27 in the diagram shown by simon_k) and make sure that part 15 is secured. They can untwist. Check the bolts that attach the shifter to the floor. They should be securely tightened to some rubber mounts that are bolted to the shifter. If these come loose the shifter can become unaligned with the gearbox - make sure there's only a tiny amount of movement from the rubber mounts. |

I would suggest a rebuild. The mainshaft nose and layshaft bearings have probably had the Richard. |

I think I found the issue. I think it's part 6 in the diagram above, just a bracket but need to hoist it up and have a good look. |
