I'm just looking at these two kits for the Mini. http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3398 and http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3383 Probably the later, as I just love them! Anyways, where's the best place to buy these guages? Anyone know any pricing on them? Also, what sort of issues will I have with wiring/hooking them up. The speedo is avail. in mech. or electric? I assume mech would be the go? What you guys think? On another note, I have successfully rebuilt my HS2 Carbie! And, my 850 engine runs, not to convert my pulsar dissy and try it with my shiny new GT40R coil. |

If you're looking to do a custom installation you must be handy. Try pulling the whole set from a XJ6 jag 71-78 they have all the good smiths and you can get them for a song. I got mine including an anologue clock for $98 Speedo, Tacho, Fuel, water, oil, volts Bargain if you can install..... |

I'm interested too, I have been looking at the guages in my MGs wondering how I can make the mini look that good. does anyone know the speedo ratio or fuel sender range? I think thats the key to finding the guages to convert, mounting them would be a piece of puss, you could probably steal oil pressure sender/temp sender from the car you are stealing the guages off and by memory it was going to cost around $30/$60 for a speedo cable for the celica box in my torana... |

I'm not sure about AutoMeter, but VDO have a universal sender that fits into the gearbox and there are buttons on the back of the speedo that you do an equation with based on engine rpm and final drive ratios (so my boss tells me after putting them in is 34 roadster), or smiths I think have four magnets that they recommend you place around a wheel or tail shaft. Mechanical you would have to get cables to suit and the rest of your guages are already electronic (I think) but you need to get the right Ohmz guage. I dont know what the mini guages are but I'm sure in the next month or so I will find out when I find some guages for my mini. I put some guages in my torana when I went to heathcoat a few months ago, temp and oil pressure, the oil pressure guage had a small line that ran to the back of the guage that pretty much screwed straight in with an olive fitting on either end of the hose. these I'm told are more accurate but when a line goes, there goes the nice carpet in your car... The temp guage screwed into the head with a fitting to allow the different thread to match up. what is the cost difference? both guages are going to work, if you set them up right. If your car is real neat, hideing wires is easier than cables.. Just my opinion, hope it helps... |
