Just an idle thought: what happened to Don Welch and his work on repairing and rebuilding hydrolastic displacers?
There was a lot of enthusiasm on this site for his proposed schemes in 2013.

Then it all went as silent as an old displacer.....

I have my little stash still! Its a shame, I was keen to get a set of new ones if they became available.

Besides disecting a donated displacer and fitting new ends to the hoses, not much came from all the technical talk and implied promises.

This is, or was, Don's business.

Came across the old posts about displacers while looking for some information.
There was a huge amount of positive interest from members at the time. Then it suddenly disappeared.
I was just curious as to what happened to Don and his project. Others have added bits of information.

I'm with you Bill. The hydro bags are an import part of a mini and someone would be great if they could duplicate this great invention, without it costing a motsa.

I'm going through the process of flushing out eight diplacers in the hope of getting 4 good ones for my 67 Cooper S restoration.
Can't find a number stamped anywhere on them.
Once cleaned and filled with Glycol mix I've found a disposable ear plug works well for sealing the hose.

Foe storage make sure you leave a good anti-corrosion mix - glycol or proper displacer fluid - in the displacers. Traces of methylated spirits or water will allow the valves to corrode.
Unless there is physical damage, they should all work. I have installed 20 years-in-storage old and 'unflushed' displacers in a rebuild a few years ago. They all pumped up and are working fine. They are very tough little fellows.
If you wash and scrub the hoses in degreaser, you might be able to see some traces of painted rings near the outer end of some hoses.

If you cannot find the numbers stamped on the side, you can determine the sort of displacer you have, by the volume of fluid it takes to fill the displacer and hose.

Cooper S displacers have considerably more volume that deluxe and Mini K displacers.

21A 2012 fronts should take about 290ml
21A 2014 rears about 275ml

Deluxe and Mini K displacers about 185ml

21A 1141 replacement displacers about 225ml. Not to be confused with the 21A 1141 marking that every displacer has stamped in the rubber.

Cooper S displacers have less distance from the flange down to the rubber.
It's only about 10 or 12mm from memory.
Can't measure they are on the car.
Common Mini ones are 25.
