I want to paint my van Toyota MR2 red but have a problem, the treasurer (SWMBO) has vetoed it. She reckons that red cars always finish up in big accidents and i was wondering if this is so. Do you own a red car that has not been pranged or is she right? My one and only red car finished up as a write off many years ago (it hit a bridge).

I've owned a red falcon for 5 years now and only have had some close calls. It's only when the nut loose behind the other wheel decides to not pay attention. Only problem is i'm the only one i know with a red car.

All other variables remaining constant, the colour of the car wouldn't make any difference surely? Perhaps more aggressive drivers buy red cars, but that's you, and you're a constant (in my equation).

And if SWMBO is to take this tack, you'll end up painting it pink as that's the colour involved in the least accidents, as I recall. Which means Senator Schwartznegger will call you a GIRLY MAN.

Paint it in period ralllying colours along the lines of the Gulf GT40s.

Anyway, she's wrong.

my mini is red, and it has been pranged (although before i got it)

the only reason red cars get smashed up more often is that, as we all know, THE RED ONES GO FASTER therefore increasing the risk of an accident

you got it in a nutshell Dylan

Ive got 2 red cars, one a red Mini van, the only prang it ever had was a guy reversing into it in a carpark :( oh and hit a feral dog once, the other red car has had a prang, on a track... it was going too fast  nothing to do with the over exhuberant driver though, purely red paint induced ;)

I understand why she thinks red cars all finish up in big prangs as she quoted all the friends who it has happened to. I will show her your replies and see what happens. At the moment black looks good.
