It can be done, but will it be worth while is a more valid question. As is, your engine will not be able to handle a decent amount of boost. For the engine to take larger amounts of boost, you need to lower your compression. This means putting deep dish pistons in, taking alot out the cylinder head combustion chambers. You will also need a decent cam, and a metro turbo 1.75" SU carbie. Is it worth doing all that to an 1100? My answer is no, go buy a 1275 and start with that, and put the deep dish pistons in, etc. |

Ping kazjim- he has a 998 with turbo, running 14psi or so... ![]() |

Drop me an email for the gory details, but yea, 14-16Psi (depending on weather) No intercooler... Once i find a few square inches of space to fit the 'cooler, I'll be able to take it to about 18-20Psi !! (Right into gearbox smashing territory) ![]() Inet temps are the secret, keep it cool, it'll make power....... I think the T28 will be VERY large for a 1100, probably want to look at a slightly smaller unit (T2 ? T2.5 ?) J |

How much did it cost to setup your turbo kazjim? Im guessing it would be advisable to fit a main bearing strap to deal with the extra load? |

I had a total budget of $2500 for the engine and turbo (all parts!) Most of that money went into the machining.... The turbo is a not very "wanted" unit from a daihatsu and cost me the grand total of $200 ! No centre strap, and I've been turning 7000 and more pretty regularly for over a year.... Cheers J |

Hmm I'm liking the sound of that - $200 for a turbo and a bit of welding to make some manifolding.... It is that easy, right? ![]() Oh, and I guess I'd need a blow off valve as well to round it off! Anto. |

Oh, did I forget to mention the 2 1/2 years of Design, testing, research and assembly ? Seriously, i had it all set up on an old engine in the garage for over 2 years...... And, yes, a Compressor Bypass Valve (BOV) is mandatory for blow-through carb setups.... If you dont have one, and you close the throttle under boost (say, changing gears) you end up with a massive rich condition that can do real fun things..... flame out the exhaust, stall, stumble etc etc J |

I have the Mini Turbo website http://www.turbominis.co.uk/ did you use this site. Also how does the information and avalibility of part compare to us in Oz Gafmo Van will be a 1275 Gafmo ![]() in the Hills |

I once test drove a mini that a guy had put a turbo on. Was the most simple conversion and most brilliant idea i've ever seen. He simply turned an exhaust manifold up side down. Made up a collector to feed the turbo. Exhaust came off turbo and back down through original location. Fed a bit of pipe back to the inlet manifold. It was a suck through set up and the carb sat over near the wiper motor. He said he borrowed the turbo of a Nissan (Exa?) from the wreckers. Only indication of what lay beneath was a very slight bump in the bonnett to allow for a bit of clearance where the turbo sat. I would have cut some holes in the bonnet to allow some air to get in but hey. Incredibly easy turbo setup. |

Suck through on a turbo... interesting.... |

yea, driven a few suck-throughs.... hated every one.... Blow-through is the only real way to do it.... ![]() Suck through has a few major draw-backs, mostly fuel centrifuges out of the mixture and pools in the compressor housing ![]() easy to mod a Weber for blow-through, so no real exuse..... (Maserati did it on the bi-turbo, so you should be able to find info on it.....) J |
