Hi All, since moving up to Manly NSW I have had to clean the inside of my car two or three times because of mould. Never had this issue in Geelong, much more humid here.
Previously used mix of white vinegar and tea tree oil.
Last time just the vinegar but left it on surfaces for an hour before wiping off excess.
I did the headlining too this time.
Seems to have worked better this time around after leaving on for an hour.
My car has a breathable cover with some ventilation and is in an underground garage which gets a bit gloomy at times. I leave a small container of bi-carb in the car too.
Has anyone else had this problem and what do they use as a fix?

Maybe you should buy a moisture absorber from coles sit it on the back parcel shelf or floor

yes use one of them, I use one in the camper trailer to keep mould off the canvas

Thank you for the suggestions. I would love a Carcoon but no power in the garage ☹️
Guess I'll go with some sort of absorbent.
The missus has a gizmo that changes colour when it needs to be dried out.
Then you plug into the mains for a while. Might give that a go.

Thanks for the links. Sadly an extension lead or a generator wouldn't be allowed.

Have a look through Hanra's posts , he had a major problem with mould in his mini some years ago , but he does live in Nth Qld .

Thanks I’ll do that.
I ended up spraying the whole of the inside including the headlining.
The research suggested leaving for one hour to let the white vinegar kill any spores.
It seems to have worked, all good so far. I also placed a tub of absorbent stuff in the car and leave an air gap in the windows.

A picture of where you park the car overnight might help? There still maybe something that can be done to keep the humidity under control...

Been through this before. The trick is to kill the mould and remove it. “ It’s been proven that harsh chemicals like bleach and ammonia aren’t effective in removing mould. The problem with bleach is that is does nothing to remove the mould. Instead, it bleaches colour giving the illusion of a mould-free surface. The fungi contain melanin, and the bleach just takes the colour out, but the fungi are still there, you are just masking it. Six weeks later it appears to come back, but it was never gone.

Use vinegar solution and it will break down the fungi. Make sure you wipe it over, leave for an hour wipe over again. The vinegar attacks the fungi mechanically, so it actually, via osmosis, penetrates into the structure and explodes it, so you actually kill the fungi.”
