is it possible it convert a late model mini wind up window to sliding window?
I personally prefer sliding windows, and was wondering if its easier converting or just finding the parts.
Any tips or advice will be muchly appreciated

when you say late model Mini what do you mean? Leyland Mini? If so forget sliding window doors. Too much trouble |

You’d need to swap the whole door, they are completely different in the inner door panel. Someone will know how interchangeable the door lock area is, I know this changed at some stage during production |

The locking mechanism (and the B pillar) changed slightly from early to late ... but as long as you don't have the lift up (flappy) handles then the bits will match. From memory they did change the support bracket and nylon wedge around but you can mix and match so they work.. Cheers, Ian |

The sliding window doors do not have the inner door frame which could be cut out and reshape around the edges to copy the early design. The door pockets are higher on sliding doors but that didn't need to be changed. The strike plate on the B piller may be a different design but I think can be used either way. The alignment retainer is on the door but as mentioned above it can be removed and remounted to suit. Sliding doors also have a gutter and drain pipe inside them which can be fabed up and welded in (I've seen some people make these out of stainless as they do rust pun on original doors). Also from memory is the door hoop a but thicker on sliding doors? That would be the first thing I'd check before trying to convert a wind up door to sliding glass. All up anything is possible if your skilled, it may be easier to just get genuine sliding doors and retrofit them to the later body shell if u can find a good set at a good price ($100-200 each). Then restore them. |
