Hard to see but one handle has the key reference number and the other does not.

See the top screw hole.

My question is. At what stage did this change?

Are they both lockable handle escutcheons?

What is the cast part number - HYA ????

Yes, that's for the handles. What about on the escutcheons?

Is the lower handle just missing the spring, flat washer and split pin to hold it to the escutcheon?

Ignore this. Misread the first post.

I found no part numbers on the escutcheons.

Had a look at some bits - 1 complete handle has the FS key code on the middle screw boss of the escutcheon but several others do not.

I have looked harder today and found part numbers on both the escutcheons.

Back to my original Mini Chat.

My question is. At what stage (date) did they change the escutcheons?

Since they are both the same part number, it looks like the makers simply remade the mould for inner pattern of the casting. That might be lost in the records of "Certizinc".

I thought there might be some info on the engineering drawing but I don't have access to HYA2795 to check. The FS947 is the key number.

Maybe this new info is another way to ID the windup windows Mini.

Does the key number help date a Mini?

Is the only difference between your escutcheons the stamped key number on one and missing on the other? One has a rubber gasket hiding full view of the under section.

If so the casting is the same and the location of the key number has changed.

Not really. There was a range of key combinations that were randomly used and reused across various BMC models.

I have seen many key codes stamped on the square key(way) but less on the escutcheon.

My thoughts in answer to your Q, as the escutcheon is easily changed - and / or handle to eliminate wear movement - and is separate to the barrel (and the square key), the stamp on the escutcheon would then have confusing reference to the FS coded key barrel. So stamping the square key(way) was more an obvious solution?
