37 years ago I put a Cooper S heater into my 850. I bent a bracket up out of 1.6mm gal sheet and screwed it to the firewall with countersunk screws.

Thought I'll title the post to the point for once. Well anyway, I've rebuilt a Mini K (underbonnet) heater, but I also got myself a Mk2 Cooper S fresh air heater, which I rebuilt too and is very nice atm. Now I know that the K or minimatic heater is more practical (as theres no need to bake inside if you want it to run) you just divert the hot air to the engine bay and can even use the ventilation function, all while the matrix is cooling the water. But I really like the whole crackle finish, flat panel look of the Coop. heater so wanted to try and run it for awhile. To mount it however, two brackets are required behind it on the firewal. Now I'd imagine that they were originaly spot welded there probably a 30 sec job if you can weld and have the equipment, but i dont have either. So has anyone bolted the brackets in before, or used screws? Also, anyone knows where I can get those brackets? |

My heater is held in with a couple of home made brackets screwed to the firewall. They look like small shelving brackets that have been cut shorter with holes drilled to suit. Quote: But I really like the whole crackle finish
Hey Mike where do you get that crackle finish paint from? My heater is our at the moment for restoration. |

I did the same as Mini68. Mine are riveted to the firewall. EDIT: Mine have a slot as per the factory brackets so you can lift the heater out without removing the brackets from the firewall. Don't forget you need to remove the Deluxe/K welded in heater duct behind the trim on the driver's side of teh dash, if you want to fit the Cooper windscreen ducting. |

As to the crackle finish, luckily my panel was in tip top condition, even the screen printed text was fine. But I think VHT make a crackle paint which is pretty close. Ask Jam, he's always posting about his paints. As to the Mini K ducting, I just have to dril out the spot welds right? |

I got myself some nice clubby ducting, but the cooper metal stuff is coming too, just in case. Now where can I get the duct hoses for both sides and inside the engine bay from? I was thinking something like an aircon shop or something, but I've never seen the thinner type anywhere. |
