Hi. My 69 deluxe with flat scuttle has the tube below the drive spindle

There's been some recent discussion about the orientation of the wiper rack when installed in an OZ Mini, specifically round-nose in case the later Clubman/Leyland Mini is different. If you can access the engine bay of your car could you please see if your rack is installed with the cross-tube containing the drive cable up high in the scuttle like the photo below, or with the tube below the drive spindles, and report back on here with your answer. The wheel boxes sit differently depending on which panel it is. |

I have two with flat scuttles (and DR3/DR3A wiper motors) and one with an indented scuttle (and AW12 wiper motor) and all have the tube closest to the viewer. John Sneddon's book documents the change of wipers on Pages 79 and 141 (I haven't checked all likely model entries), and the scuttle change would have had to change simultaneously due to the changed wheel box positioning (lh park vs rh park as previously. |

Doug. checked your request out and mine is the same as your's. Car is dated April 70 Mk 2. Indented scuttle. Sorry not good on the photo attachments. If you need a photo I could email one Cheers |

Doug, My 1965 English MK1 and my 1967 Aus MK1 Cooper S's are both like yours. Most I have installed / removed or seen have been the same. But, I have seen some installed the other way but they don't sit neatly and sometime fowl the wire harness tangs, but will work. I have always assumed they were reinstalled incorrectly. John |

Doug My car is a 1965 cooper s with flat scuttle and has pipe down it would appear that the indent model will provide more clearance for the pipe [cable outer] and my experience was that i needed to use an under the bonnet rubber bush that was thicker for the flat scuttle. I suspect clearance issues may have something to do with bushes used and note that PUB1056m has amended part numbers for these although strangely no reference to mark 1 or mark 2 e.g.bush for top shown as 54704794 and was 54711100 and bottom bush now 54704794 and was 54711101. Have checked my pile of bushes and note the following thicknesses on the skinny side of the tapered rubber like bushes:- 54702174-5/16" these are the ones I used to get clearance 54702194- 1/8" 54711100- nil 54711101- 1/8" It seems the above bonnet bushes are plain whilst the underneath and larger ones have a raised bar on the long side.I have not had any difficulties with clearance between the pipe and the wiring harness as fitted. Admittedly I have played about with my car and had fitted a rover two speed self parking intermittent etc etc unit but have since removed it and replaced it with the original single speed self park unit. Suggest the difference may be the with bushes used as I needed to use thicker bushes to get clearance even with the pipe down. Cheers Ian |

My 2 Minis are both tube uppermost. One is a 74 Clubman and the other is a 71 K. This post has come at the perfect time as I'm having problems fitting mine to my 76 Clubman at the moment. |
