Dark coloured Cooper S with white roof going past Albert Park Lake last night in the middle of peak hour. I tried to get alongside or right behind, but to no avail...

Yep, that sounds right. I was in my BRG/White roof/stripes roundie. There was a quick wave as you passed me from the lane that was actually moving.
