Ahh that unit complex brings back a few memories. Hint Hint if you do buy a unit, watch for falling syringes when walking along the building. A few junkies resided there and would throw theire uncapped and used syringes out the window. If you were the unlucky person walking past.....you can work out the rest

I lived in Torbreck just after my mum and dad separated in 1984(!). I remember getting confused climbing up a massive ladder and jumping off. Broke both my ankles at the same time. I was young and silly(er).

On another occasion my mum reckons I was sleep walking and she found my on the outside of the handrail, 10 stories up, in the big tower.

Interesting fact, Torbreck was Brisbane's first high rise. I crossed paths with it later in life too when I started in the banking industry. I used to prepare and register home loan documents. It has a somewhat unique ownership structure (now) where you buy shares in a "Company" and that entitles you to ownership of the unit and car park. It is referred to as a "Company Title". Most old units blocks started life out like this but have since been converted. Torbreck has bucked the trend, which makes it a pain in the arse for lenders (read as expensive for borrowers).

My Dad was one of the Supervisors on the job when it was built [he was a Brickie]. Got an old photo while it was being built somewhere at Mum's place.. and Yes, was the first highrise in Bne - they used the American way of building - jacking the higher floors up as they made them.. amazing piece of engineering for it's time :D
