Loose metal objects in the boot, roll around until they short out on the battery, catches on fire then heads to the fuel tank.

Always be mindful of what you keep near the battery, and use a battery cover and carry a fire extinguisher in the cabin!

It's a shame.

Well i will be making a wooden i guess for the want of a better word for the boot area and will be covered in carpet with a hatch for the battery and the spare wheel.

And i guess i will go for a fire extinguisher as well , better safe that sorry.

The battery in the van is behind the drivers seat in a hole under the floor. It slides in from the front - if the battery is a bit bigger than standard then the terminals can hit the metal floor - happened to me a couple of times till I put a piece of carpet on top and made sure the battery was secured. Luckily for me it happen putting the battery in and out so after changing my underpants I looked for a remedy.

Ive been there before.... lucky for me it was contained to the back seat. In my Rover, a piece of metal shorted between the metal behind the back seat and the battery and it got so hot it melted the metal and lit up the back seat..!!!!

(I wasnt driving at the time  )

This is sad because it was one of those "rare Leyland vans"

Is that the same red Mini Van that had big sportpack arches? It was for sale recently. Was it from Byron Bay or something?

I think I know the owners/ have met them, but can't remember names. The number plate looks very familiar from the mini run last yr we went on. Maybe some of the sunny coast group can shed some light?

that nearly happened to me last year, the jack fell between the battery and the metal fuel line, ruptured the line and set the fuel alight - fire extinguisher saved me... but I have proper terminal covers now too
