Tim! Actually wings ON Illawarra. They didn't take off because of the 50 knot cross winds on the runway from the west ![]() My favourite exhibit was the man who sat in his classic 2010 pug the whole day having food passed through the window. ![]() |

Good weather for kite flying. Large crowds too. The people who paid (not me:)!) for gold tickets for seating in the stands must have felt like disappointed mugs today. To be fair those who paid for gold tickets should be given a partial refund - difference between normal entry and gold ticket. If the promoters had to pay for fuel for the vintage aircraft flypasts, they made a motza today by not providing it. Hopefully with all the money made today they can reopen the museum and bring it up to scratch to meet local council requirement. |

I was wondering why the big Constellation was facing away in shame at the other end of the field instead of in front of the crowd myself. Another piece of prime crowd pleaser kept away. There might be a few claims from teh day for refunds. Still. I appreciated being able to crawl around some of these pieces of history up close. The Sabres, Neptunes and Catalina were favourites. The Neptune dripped oil on me which was not unlike soething that might happen in my garage. No I didn't take the camera out, everything was static, so I didn't think of taking pictures like that. There is a good video however of the F18s taking off in a 40 - 50 knot cross wind. They're not as slippery when the wind comes from the side. Watch the wheel marks as the first plane slides sideways down the runway. See here below. |

I didn't see this till now! Mick wrote: I was wondering why the big Constellation was facing away in shame at the other end of the field instead of in front of the crowd myself. It was apparently bogged... they were going to drain all the fuel out in the hope of moving it. My favourite bit of the day was the announcement over the PA: Would the owner of a white Toyota Prado License plate xx-xx-xx Please return to your vehicle A sinkhole has opened up under your car! I took some photos of the cars and got a few good ones of the jets. I'll dig some out for you |
