You could tie the exhaust to the fuel pump with a piece of fence wire. When the Fuel Pump stops, the engine jumps and stutters, and shakes the fuel pump back into action again.... :P

Dad used to go on the outback testing for BMC/Leyland.

This was their solution for a failed pump on a prototype Tasman

Tow-rope and masking tape.
