My conversion cost me 10 grand + on road costs.

That is from an unregistered drum brake shell to what it is now. Frame, wheels-tyres, brakes, paint, seats, 1/2 cut, fueling, drive shafts, wiring, exhaust, stereo and gauges.

On road costs include- engineers report, rego check, rego and insurance = another 2 grand.

It all depends on how resource full you are and how much you can do. I have managed to get to where i am on avery tight budget, but it has taken some years, Brad would know that because i think i went and saw him at least a year and a half ago about starting the efte part of the project.

You will find a lot of the guys here have done alot of work themselves, wether it be body work and finishing the efte installation or doing the whole conversion themselves inc the subframe. Other people know there limitations or simply do not have time and are happy to pay for the work to be done by others.

As always it really depends what your end goal is, do you want to learn to weld along the way? or are you happy to let someone else do it? do you want to sort out the electrics? or do you want someone else to do it? Body work and paint? the list goes on.

I personally like to learn new trades as I go (which i think saves me money) but we all have our own agendas.

If you have a car and want to do the conversion i would think 8-10k would be about the figure for a basic conversion using trades to do the work.

My thoughts anyway.

Dan

I think you wouldnt get much change out of 8k (if any) And that is if you are only changing the things that are needed! Unlike what i am doin, if i take something old out i go yep that will be replaced with a new one and that adds up big time in the end. I am going with a suzuki conversion and i have spent bucket loads... And not even close to being finished, it started as
a rolling van shell in good condition $3000
13 x 7's performance superlites with yoko rubber $1300
Camira from brake setup $900
Subframe $500 (thanks again striped  )
Motor and box $2000
Im not going to mention my misc items cos as yet but lets say its way more than double the above prices, also the turbo, intercooler, radiator, wiring, manifolds and everything else is still needed..

You can buy a quite decent Starlet GT for 10k.....with electric windows, nice seats, climate control, power steering, central locking,.....no leaks, no rattles, no rust, no engineering/insurance hassles, and certainly not a year or two of messing around, gathering information, getting things custom made, trial fitting, ordering parts, parts not coming, getting things fitted, towing it around....
Honestly, it takes a special type of person to commit to such a project.....and I personally would much prefer a modern car to drive daily, and a mini to play around with on weekends, take on cruises etc.......

Well... good for you :!:
I think that a 4efte in a mini is a feat of huge scale.
It makes magazines ffs... i bet a lot of those "worked" stocky GTs dont
And, owning people at the lights when theyre dragging "just another mini", well thats another thing isnt it :D

Yeah call me weird but I am actually enjoying doing the conversion. Huge feat but once done what a sense of accomplishment. Plus you're creating something rather than just buying something that came off the production line.

I was merely trying to bring the "sensible" side into the argument....
I love working on project cars as much as the next person here....and i can see the benefits of the starlet conversion into a mini, but i can also see some potential negatives (potential, as i havent driven a 4efte mini)
with the big one being traction.....the enemy of big hp FWD cars.....you wont be owning anyone at the lights when u sit there spinning your wheels on the white line :!:
