Josh,

Did you crack the 200 hp mark?

Must have fallen asleep during that event.

How has she been running Josh? Any things I should do to mine before I put it in and fire it up, you've been running you'rs for a few years now so most of the teething problems should have been sorted...

Are you back on track with yours Gordo?

It's been running very well, i spent a bit of time sorting out the handling over the last year or so taking it down to wakefield park and i'm happy with how the car drives now. One of the best things i did was switch to 10" rims and tires - this saved 5Kg per corner in unsprung weight (20Kg total) and it makes a big difference to the feel of the car.

I still have a problem with driveshafts, and would suggest anyone looking at driving hard and running an LSD to look at updrating to AllSpeed HD CV's so you can use a larger diameter axle.

My last set of shafts lasted 2 years and were very high quality but you are still limited by the size of the shaft input to the mini CV. To give you an idea of the stress they are under, i was chirping both wheels at wakefield changing gear from 3rd to 4th (~150km/h). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y8olnNh70c)

Overall though - long drives, many track days, drags and it's been pretty good mechanically and it's such fun to drive :)

Poo bum fart, I have my front hubs in at the moment getting bearings and cv's done. I could always change them to the cv you are talking about. Are they easy enough to get? I just don't want to get them in and get some drive shafts to suit then still bang them...
And I'm not quite sure yet how mine is traveling yet, am going to call the guys that have it Monday and see what's up. It looks basically as it did when it was at enforcers but without the motor fitted and the shell has surface rust through out it

That white Mini is owned by a guy named "Ben James" in Victoria - very nice car running a VTEC, not sure if it's 1.6L or 1.8L.

The actual car would be a good 200Kg lighter than my car in street trim - by memory it had a fiberglass flip front, plexiglass windows, a single race seat, no carpet etc.

In contrast i have full seating front and rear, a couple of speakers, carpeting, door trim, glass all round, steel panels.

In a straight line on about 18psi i was faster down the main straight, but due to the extra weight (or driving  ) i wasn't as fast around the corners.

You can see lap times here: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?06/03/2011.WAKE.R3

Hi Mad Mini,

awesome thread. heaps of work and heaps of dollars spent and heaps of knowledge required to do a conversion of this sort.

Well Done!

Any chance of getting some more pics uploaded? It looked as though there were some changes made to the engine since the bearings went in the last one.

Ultimately, would it be something you recommend doing (for a non mechanical engineer)? Or is it more trouble than it's worth and it may be better to pimp an A series?

Good work once again!
