Now we are at the cutting edge!
Do you know now far it would go on a charge and number of batteries.

This thread is amazing, wish I had the time and money to do this myself. I had to get my mini home from Port Stephens to Marsfield on $16 cos I ran out of cash on Friday. This would pay for itself in no time if you drive it every day. Huge amounts of respect for what is being done.

Hi all,

As stated earlier in here, i'm thinking of doing something similar after being inspired by this project. For those of you that want to look at the calculations invovled and the projected savings i'd be checking out the aeva or zeva websites.

If anyone is interested i've made up a s/sheet with all the calcs which compare different battery types and the original ICE system.

Amos and others thinking of elec conversions and want to play with performance spec's etc have a play on this site. pick out the parts you want to use on the RH columns
and see what sort of speed and range you can get out of your chosen car (if its in the list)

re: cooper's site with respect to Cd and Af.

I've seen the drag coeff (Cd) cited as a bit higher in other places. I have seen up to 0.53 used. This makes a bit of difference to calcs especially at higher speeds.
And on the Frontal area (Af) subject i went out and measured my mini (ground to roof, side to side) and got 1200mm x 1100mm, very rudimentary measurements and maybe i was a little hungover that day! But that results in an Af = 1.32 m^2 a little less than on Cooper's site.

Just FYI of course!

Hi all,
I have estimated my CD as I have a full floor pan on my car so the air flow is laminar with no interferances. It is estimated that 33% of a cars drag is caused from the belly of the car, I know a mini isn't probably the best car when it comes to drag coefficients but it makes up for it by having a small frontal area, so any improvements I can make without changing the apperance of the car is good.

Cheers Phill

Cooper

I hope all is well is the project, almost finished you have a time or date of when you will be on the road.
I see you're using acid batteries how much room will they take up in the car. Are you going to lose the back seat or can you put the batteries under the back seat.

Any updates Phill?

That EVCalc site has DeLorean listed. 8) Unfortunately they don't have "Mr Fusion" as a selectable power source...

Hi all,
No real updates as I have just moved from Newcastle to Bathurst so not much spare time, I am hoping to have it completed by the end of september if all goes to plan. The whole back seat is going to be taken up by batteries but ill retain all my boot space with the exeption of my charger which is quite small.

Jobs left to do are
- Complete my battery box and install batteries
- Mount charger
- Complete the cars wiring (DC-DC converter to cars main outputs, wipers, lights, heater etc
- Engineering approval

These jobs will take me only a few weekends, so hopefully ill get the time over the next month or so.

Cheers Phill
