So how is your jap subframe design going? Still at the "vapourware" stage? ;)

Well,,, the first one is still being finished off,,, the jig is being modified for the latest improvements at the moment,,, it will be quite some time before we`re done with it.
But it`s not just a simple pipe-type addition to the front of a std mini frame , it`s all pressed metal triangulated assembly so its quite labour intensive & we don`t work on it every day, it`s just a side-line thing like our Bimmer Twinkys

i really wish i had nothing better to do that finish all my projects off, but for some reason there`s a whole heap of people wanting me to work on their minis :-)

I don't know if you guys noticed but I said I was going to mount the radiator backwards, what I really meant was ALTERNATOR. I got distracted at work when I was typing that post. So I meant to say I will be mounting the stock Honda alternator backwards, I may even have the fan blades on it turned around to keep it cool, but I've heard that is not necessary.

I noticed - had me confused, but I worked it out....

I can't believe that in a post where I just said I was near perfect but I would like you guys to point out any mistakes I made a mistake and NOBODY CALLED ME ON MY MISTAKE!

I was just testing you guys anyway.

You all fail on the part about informing me of my mistakes, but you all passed the part about not being dicks and making me feel stupid. Ausmini is a great forum community, I love it, thanks for being you everybody.

Noooo, don't do that.. it'll heat the engine instead of cooling it :!:

More importantly it wont make any sparks for the motor!

I picked it! I just pointed it out cryptically.

Here are a couple quick pics. I have to move my car tomorrow so I had to hammer out some work in the last few days so I didn't take many pictures. The few I did take didn't turn out too well, some settings on my camera have changed and I didn't know it.
I'm moving my car back home at least for a while, hopefully I will get some more work done on it since I don't have to drive across town to work on it any more. However I will be taking a small break from it to get my other Traveller rolling again so I can get it out of my work area at home. Then I need to finish welding a few panels in another Mini shell so I can trade it to a friend for a couple paint jobs and just to get it out of my way.
I was thinking if the VTEC thing didn't work out I will have room for other swaps. Small child power has not been done, I could be a pioneer. Not sure how quick it will be or what kind of range I will get. Lizzy is nice enough to share her shop with me, so I share my Mini with her. She likes to play in it, and she also drives it when we move it around the shop.

Sorry the lack updates. In the last four months not much has been done on the Travelle"R". But I did repair a smashed Mini shell and fixed all the rust and I traded it to a friend who is going to do some panel beating and paint jobs on 3 Minis for me. I also built a Tilt trailer for hauling Minis (I made it long enough for Travellers). I had laser eye surgury, then it was Christmas and then I went to Las Vegas for a seminar for work. And I almost forgot I had a visit from Scott and Jen Allerton.
And interestingly enough I actually started back to work on the Travelle"R" today. I'm trying to get the alternator mounted, I think I've got it figured out and I have a bracket half made. I'm hoping to have it mounted up by the end of he weekend. I will post some pics when I have something to show for my efforts. I am hoping to drive the car to a big Mini meet at the end of June so I should have some more frequent updates over the next few months. Sorry for the lack of work over the last few months. (I was trying to give you guys to catch up with me on your projects).

I started from scratch but based on a bracket from MiniTec I built myself an alternator bracket, I mostly just need to finish up the welding with my TIG. I cut the shapes out with the plasma then fine tuned them after. I made a spacer on the lathe and then I started tacking it together. Then I set up a laser to align the pulleys before I made the final tack welds. I unbolted the alternator and did a couple more tack welds and bolted everything back together. Everything still lined up so I will work on the final welds tomorrow after I triple check. I'll take some pics after the bracket is finished and it's off the car. I do also have to add another idler pulley to make sure the belt doesn't foul the subframe. This bracket tucks the alternator close to the engine and it kept me from mounting the alternator backwards in the fender well which will also make it easier for making inner wings later.

Here is another update, I popped home at lunch and finished up most of the bracket, just have to add an idler pulley now and the paint it or have it powder coated.
