Aluminum may be better at rejecting heat but that does not mean that with two radiators the same dimensions, one aluminum and one copper/brass that the aluminum one will automatically be more efficient. There is a lot more to it than just the material that it is made from.
Look at the gills per inch on each and see which one has more surface to air area.

He was referring to the engine being 3x as efficient, not the radiator.

$96 + $60 postage from Hong Kong, off eBay. 2-core, aluminium radiator for a Honda Civic.

Only problem is the bottom water outlet is not in the right spot, but no matter, nothing a competent aluminium welder can't fix.

Hmm...should have put a Mini radiator next to it for size comparison...Oh well maybe another time.

Hmmm, that looks good, and very cheap.
Mine is 3 core though, and a bit smaller so easier to fit in. The other reason I like the cooper/brass one is it should be less susceptable to corrosion, especially given the cheapnessof that one . Mine is gonna be a daily when it's done so it needs to be reliable.

Can you give me the measurements anyway?

Hi Slinkey, changing outlets is easy, I have welded heaps in before, it should not cost much if you get the right person, but make sure you ask around... there are plenty of crooks out there

Mine's based on a civic rad. Not the same as that one though. Koyo brand. It had the end of the tanks cut to the same width as the core. (originally the tanks were about 25mm longer at each end.)

Its a bit tight in my bay, but I didn't cut it into the front panel at all. Hope it gives you some idea of the dimensions. :D

I measured the size of the core. It's about 36cm by 36cm, it is slightly taller than wider but close enough, it looks a lot less square than it really is. Probably just because of the tanks.

It may be 2 core, not 3 but they are very large cores. Longer than the cores in my 2 core Mini radiator.

Aluminium does corrode, but 90% of new cars use aluminium radiators (usually single core, but large surface area) and don't seem to have a problem so I think I'll be fine. And mine is going to be a daily too.

I've spoken to another bloke with a Starlet engined Mini who says that on a hot day his car gets very hot - a little too hot! And he thinks mine will be adequate, so we'll see.

Well, not too much to report. Have moved house successfully and starting to get new shed sorted out a bit. Car moved OK except when I wheeled it out into the street the tack welds on the drivers side castor rod mount broke and the wheels went all wonky, right in the middle of the road! Made it very hard to move. Luckily I had enough extension leads to run out to the road with the welder and weld it up. After that it all went smoothly.

Now, I've jumped the gun a bit here, but we all have moments of madness when it comes to cars.

I have decided I'm gonna go with the Tarox 6pot brakes that Josh has used, which won't fit under the standard 12s. So even though I haven't even bought the brakes yet, and I should be doing a bunch of other things first, I kinda accidentally bought some wheels for it off ebay. They're 15 inch two-piece black RS Watanabes. Exactly the wheels I wanted so I had to have them. Will post pics when they arrive. I hope they fit...

Hi Madmorrie

I have the left over radiator from my vtec build 32mm inlet / outlet from the honda integra if its any use? give me a pm.

mini regards

peter d
sent pm that seems to have gone home to ET?

so rad size width 700 mm high 500 mm x 50 mm

If its in the car the top outlet is 200 mm from the drivers side and bottom is 100 mm from drivers side.

I got the exact same radiator from ebay on my mini.. works very well for the money. I didn;t change the bottom hose position.. it JUST fits.. but changing it would be the way to go...

Wheels came today!!!!!

They are genuine RS Watanabes. 15 x 6.5 inches. Should be plenty of room for brakes.
I'll probably have to go to 45 series rubber, I saw some 195/45/15 Yoko 539s on a polo the other day and wanted to steal his tyres.
The rims cleared the radius arm with similar space to factory, and look like they'll be OK on the front too.

Bolted to car
Image

No need to flare the guards, just roll them, at the back anyway...
Image

The fronts will need some work. It's actually only about an inch and a half that's needed though it looks like more. Shame you can't buy sportpack arches for these cars.
Image

Have no tyres so photoshopped some in for giggles.
Image

Does that look tough or what? (for an 1100)

Cheers

Madmorrie
