yeah, clubman S has a smaller 3 spoke steering wheel, and LS has a leather rimmed sports type wheel - 14" maybe? the S type fits neatly inside my standard bus wheel, but haven't measured one

It's because Americans are prudish (well, they pretend to be...) :P

Anyone out there got an LS steering wheel they can measure? Would love to know so i can buy one that is roughly the same size. Can argue that it's used on a similar model for when it goes to rego..

I'm a bit worried about the uneven "twisting" force that the gas strut supplies to the boot lid... Has anyone installed only one side gas struts and had a problem with this??

I asked the question may moons ago : http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=693330

Becauwe with the boot, the strut doesn't have to lift anything or hold anything up, Tombo mentioned drilling out and drain the gas/fluid from a strut to turn it into a damper. Have a look at the above thread (and Tombo's video)

You wont have an issue as the boot lid is very torsionally stiff.

Got another solid 8 hours in the shed today... finally starting to see some progress. No pics at this stage, but I finished rust removal body work. Still need to replace the front end - which will take some time.
Started the roll cage today too. Got the main hoop fitted and secured and begun cutting the parcel shelf for the rearward members.

Got some cool bits lately, but haven't posted pics.
- Wheels on page 6 of this thread are now in my possession :D
- A set of Smiths gauges turned up last week in matching magnolia complete with a custom boost gauge with "Smiths" badging and color coded to suit the set :D :D
I'm just getting some brushed stainless plate cut for these gauges to fit my dash, will post pics once the dash is complete...

Now i'm in the midst of putting both subframes back on the car so i can check what guard modifications i'll have to make to fit the wheels and see what i'm going to do re: flares to make the wheels fit within the confines of the car... Any suggestions there? Don't really want to go to massive flares either...

So i got to trial fit my new wheels last night... unfortunately my rim/flare combo isn't going to work, the wheels stick out from the flares by about 30mm. What are my options?

I could go to bigger flares, but to be honest i don't really like them. I could use different wheels, but really don't want to do that after what they've cost me.

Is it possible to roll guards on a mini? Then put the flares over the top? I'd imagine the seam that intersects the guard would prevent rolling?

Any help appreciated.

Amos.

30mm is a lot.

Basically your options are change the wheels or flares.
I have huddersfield grp 2 and they are a bit wider than the ones you have I think. I reckon they look good too.
I could trade wheels with you if you want.

What alignment do you have? You might be able to poke the top of the wheels under with more negative camber, but 30mm is a fair bit for that. :?

Never heard of rolling the guards on a mini, but it might be worth a crack if you don't want to change flares.

All "rolling the guards" is, basically folding that lip back up onto it self. Dosnt really make the guards stick out any further just makes more room between the outer and inner guard if that makes sense?

Author:  amos [ Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:46 am ]
Post subject:

Yeah that makes sense.... basically giving more room for the wheel and tyre if they're contained within the guard... My lip is already outboard of the guard (i.e. pointing away from the longitudinal centreline of the car as apposed to pointing toward the CL).

Really not happy with this result! I'll probably have some modified flares for sale soon :(
