hey you~re onto it tricky :-)

& i`ve no idea really,,,, :-),,, i just bid on a whim wonderin if i could get it cheap,,, & i did :-) sort of more of a joke than anything, cause you snavelled the last one out from under me :-)

so now if i can get it back up here cheap enough then i`ll probly just drive it around for a while & sell off my daihatsu move

Later on when my kombi is finished (i`m getting a fair bit of work done on my kombi right now, new seats & sterio & carpet & stuff) maybe shove the civic running gear into some BMC thing with a turbo B16 or something like that attached to the box,,, maybe a 1500 nomad or a Monaco fastback or maybe even one of my speedway mini vans :-)

not really fussed really :-)

Hey Matt,

While I have you, what transaxle are you running in the Kombi behind the 1UZFE. Is it the standard VW unit??

Also, how is the ticker holding up my friend?

Cheers,
Tricky

P.S. B-series engines and D-series gearboxes arent compatible! You will have to go to a D16ZC like I was going to.

Ah,,, well,,, the Kombi has Porsche 930 turbo CV joints, with Chrome-molly fabricated/uprated drive flanges, & BMW 7 series E32 axles

i bought some Empi race axles from the states for it , but after i did some homework i found the Bimmer ones did the job nicely at less than half the price , so i sold the Empis :-)

the box (Case) is Late kombi, but there`s virtually nothing volks inside it anymore,,, mostly all Albins aftermarket race gears & shafts with a Pelquin LSD from the states :-)

don`t ask me how much $$$ i`ve spent on this please? i`ve chosen to forget :-(

& heart is holding up ok so far, i have cardio-rehab starting wednesday so i`ll see how that goes, at least i`l already be at the hospital if it doesn`t like it :-) I`ve been walking 20mins twice a day now so i should be ok, actually made it 30 mins twice today, & quite briskly i might add :-)

What do you think of the Porsche G50? Do you know of anyone who has put one behind a 1UZFE??

Glad to see you are holding up!!

G50 & G64`s are pretty good, better than kombi boxes, but cost more too :-)

a friend of mine (Arron) has a G64 in his kombi with a turbo tripple-rotor (20B) pushing it, (blanked off the 4x4 front shaft)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=ngrv_KEAbNA

but he`s also having similar problems to me with stripping gears, Cw&p`s & spreading cases etc

so he`s dropped his power back down to 700hp

with a decent steel cradle wrapped around them & some awesome Albins gears inside them they`re ok tho... especially if the car doesn`t weight the same as a Kombi... mines 1860kgs :-)

in a race car they`re fine & last quite a long time

Well back to the job at hand.

Big day today - gave the shed a good clean (ongoing) and fully stripped El Gato ready for him to be put on the dolly tomorrow morning which will allow me to wheel him outside to do all the wet sanding and spraying etc. Just a bit of interior stuff to remove.

And here he is all bare and naked:

With the engine standing forlornly on the bench:

Tomorrow is putting him on the dolly and then getting stuck back into the bodywork. Hopefully I will be able to put one to two coats of high build on if the weather is good - oh, after I finish cleaning the shed of course!!

Also, my Chrissie present finally arrived, but I will show you that tomorrow.

Cheers,
Tricky

G'Day Forumites,

Just a quick update to let you all know there has been some progress, and that I havent been sitting on my BFA not being productive.

With the front drivers side guard being completed, I just decided to work my way around the car in a logical manner so I wouldnt miss anything. So, this weekend I tackled the drivers rear quarter.

This area was a bit problematic as in a previous life The Cat had a shunt in this corner. It must have only been a slight Liberace as the panel was beaten not replaced. Suffice to say that the repair was not finished by the PO.

Not being a body man, the corner was more difficult than standard because of compound curves and then a flat section for the motorcycle fuel filler which needed to be perfectly flat to seal. Anyway, after a weekend worth of beating, filing, bogging and sanding I think I have it close enough so the high-build will take out all the minor imperfections:

And for those who haven't seen the motorcycle fuel filler in situ:

This weekend, being a four day weekend, I am hoping to have the other corners finished and the first coat of high-build on the whole car. Its getting there slowly, but I am happy and very excited with the progress. Hope you guys are too!

P.S. - I like nice round bums, just like a sexy Latino woman. Mmmm, Jay-Lo!!

Cheers,
Tricky

Tricky - I just had a quick look back through a few details and I have a question about the air filter box (mounted in the Mini radiator position). You mentioned there will be a K&N filter in the box but it looks like the whole thing is sealed/welded. How do you get the filter in/out of the box?

Thanks Hallsey, mate your encouragement keeps me going!!

Hi Alan, there is a K&N air filter inside the air box. The face of the box that mates to the radiator grill of the guard actually detaches. You would never know that unless you actually looked up inside the passenger side guard. The reinforcing ring that you see is welded to the inner guard to reinforce the grill.

Here is a pic showing the removeable panel in situ:
Image

Because the airbox will be pressurised by ram-air, there will be a foam gasket around the opening to seal it off. So basically, you install the air filter, seal the air-box, and then install the air-box into the car, before the brake booster.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Tricky

Does that mean you've gotta remove the brake booster to change your air filter?
