The issue with ADR's and late model engines is you need to retro-fit more safety features like collapsible steering column, air bags, dual braking systems, emissions control, engine noise etc etc. A lot of these things can be re fitted from late model Rover minis it's just more hassle and less options in the parts range. Plus these things can be more expensive and add extra weight to the car.
I'm not sure what ADR features are required on an engine transplant from a 2010 car but I guess it's more than a 1990 model engine.

Sounds like it could get pretty damn difficult then.

I'd be almost 100% certain that you have to bring the engine ancilliaries up to the ADRs but not the chassis. So you have to have all emissions controls, like catholic converter, evaporative emission control (charcoal canister on old cars but pressurised tank etc on newer) plus the stock EFI control (because in Qld the DOT doesn't yet recognise the quick emissions test done in other states, only the full-blown ADR test so you can't substitute control and comply). Some people are even forced to use the stock air filter assembly to comply with emissions and noise

No need to retrofit airbags, ESP, pre-tensioned seatbelts etc.

Oh and somebody flogged one of your spark plugs....

Hi Smac, engine is offset so l don't have to modify the standard 62 mini body(inner guards), I am hoping it doesn't have to much torque steer.Matt can you tell me the year of that suzuki

ah, havn`t a clue really, it`s down at my dads place, when i`m next down there i`ll take a look

& i was told it was a one litre engine, but i`ve know idea to be honest

It`s a great little engine & box tho,,, actually the whole car is pretty good, just that it doesn`t have windows or appolstery or lights etc,

Hey M-JAY

Just wanted to compliment you again on how great your subframe looks.

Some impressive fab work there, really.

Do you have any more pictures of the subframe?
Perhaps without the engine in-situ?

I like how you cut everything out except the turrets and remade it.
Looks factory, not a hacked up home job. 8)

New engine just has to meet the ADR for emissions, engineer will want standard upgrades if the car does not have them like 2 speed wiper, washers, demister, mirrors, safety glass, and indicators. Only needs a collapsible column if you increasing capacity by over 45%. Anything else the engineer might want is upto the engineer, but might include things like a brake upgrade.

Also i would talk to the engineer asap and find out what they want. Its a wise courtesy to get them on the ground floor rather than bringing a finished product and expecting them to pass it.

Also take lots of pics!

Just looking at those subframe pics, though the frame looks well made and designed, the three point engine mounts on such small cotton reels will give problems down the track. Those 3cy engines vibrate like a whacker packer, so I'd be sure to keep an eye on the front right subframe mount and front left engine bracket for fatigue cracking as a result.

Hi Harley, the subframe has four mounts and those cotton reels are quite strong, are you a engineer? or are you just guessing.

Engineer. :D
I have no doubts about the strength of the cotton reels, just wondering if their small size will give much dampening. Only mentioned it because a friend has one of those Altos and when I stuck my head under the bonnet it was shaking so much I thought it had a misfire!

Hi Harley, yes they do shake a little but only being a 1000cc its not that big of an issue to me,if it was a three cylinder diesel l would need better dampening. I would rather feel a few vibes then have the engine wobbling like crazy. :P
