Gordo,

You are no where near the record.......

I believe with Tony it has taken him about 11 years and Barbie is still not on the road yet.

Any takers for the record!

JC, you've been at it a while..............

I am at two years, four months and counting.

Cheers,
Tricky

Only started THIS conversion April '06.

My car has driven under its own power prior to trying an engine conversion. So it has be finished, to a degree.

Hi Dion,

Thanks for the post and the kind words.

Its all going very slowly at the moment unfortunately.

The spray painter/panel beater has got no sense of urgency in his routine, so I just have to wait until he is ready to do The Cat, which shouldnt be too long now.

Thats why we go to the trouble of posting these threads is to motivate other people and to let others know what we are up to. I am heartened to think that the thread is doing its intended job!

I will post again very soon (hopefully), to let you all know where El Gato is up to.

Cheers,
Tricky

trust me i kno wat its like i worked as a panel beater for 18 months? i think(i got fired cuz i wasnt a good enough worker haahah bugger him !)... an it can pretty busy !

usually the bigger jobs will be left for last too...

i finished reading it all last night an in my words yuove got it all together pretty fast!!

i like your boot job too.. ive wanted too do something like that to mine for ages.. except in my case i have a 6 inch cannon ( wont even fit under the car while sittin on the ground!)

ive made a 8 inch semi circle tube too weld in and im going too weld a notch in the beavers panel (or what eva you call the rear part of the sub frame) too make it fit

oh an i have a question.. i want to do the converaion... can i get your opinions on (or rather correct answers lol) wether its a good idea too take the sub frame out of my 73 clubman and modifiy it then put it in my 75 when its done? i mean will it matter because it might not fit in the 75 due too stretchin and bending over the 30 odd years its had the crap flogged out of it?

any way hooro keep up the top work !

Dion,

As long as you dont put too much heat into the subframe, and use a jig to do the conversion with, the '73 subframe should fit the '75 Clubman no worries.

In saying that though, I have found that there are slight differences from car to car with the British stuff - the quality control was nowhere near what the Japs have.

Good luck with the conversion.......

Cheers,
Tricky

*****UPDATE***** ******UPDATE******* ******UPDATE******

Well, while things haven't been speeding along, there has been some progress. I visited the paint shop today to find that they had started to trial fit all the fibreglass and make adjustments.

This will be quite a long and lengthy process, perhaps as long as 2-3 weeks, as there is extensive mods to be made to the front spoiler to accomodate the driving lights, cold-air intake, FMIC inlet, and brake duct cooling. So, once its all modelled, a mould has to be made off the new spoiler, then of course multiple mouldings can be pulled from this.

Likewise with the rear bar, this has to accomodate in its new shape the twin 3" exhaust outlets, the reversing light and fog light and the diffuser. Once the new shape is agreed, a mould has to be made, and of course we then can pull off any number of mouldings from this.

The reason for doing it this way, is that at any time a spoiler becomes bent, cracked or whatever, we simply take another spoiler from the mould, paint it and fit it - it keeps the cost down in the long run.

So, in about 3-4 weeks the bodykit will be fitted, and the whole body finally ready for the top-coat- so, its not long to go now.

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!!!!!

Cheers,
Tricky
