AFAIK the higher the group number the wider/fatter the arches get. |

I'll second that. I read that on TMF a few days ago. Each number represented a set width I've heard group 2 wide are group 5... confusing much? |

It all started back in the 60's with the classes of racing. Group 1 was stock and Group 2 was modified, sort of like the 'Series Production' and 'Improved Production' classes in Australia. Minis could be run in Group 1, Group 2 and Group 5. So BMC homologated wheel arch extensions for the Mini for Group 2 and also sold bigger ones for cars running in Group 5. (group 5 flares didn't need to be homologated) Groups 3, 4 and 6 were for sports car racing. Group 7 was Can-Am. (The original Ford GT-40 was a Group 4, the Mk2 was a Group 6) But since those days Mini parts people have decided to fill the gaps between the Group 2 and Group 5 flares. But back in the 60s there was only Group 2 and Group 5 flares. |

May I ask who that engineer is? I am having all sorts of trouble just getting a foot in the door to speak to a VASS accredited engineer. |
