Did some more before it started raining. Today, took the hood. And hood bows, wind deflectors, rear wheels off today.

Tomorrow the rear subframe. pedal box, and master cylinders will come off

ok little bit more done today,

front headlights and lenses removed
battery and wiring removed
brake and clutch masters removed
brake lines removed without damaging them so they can be copied
removed the windscreen wiper motor and wipers
removed the bonnet and rubbers
removed all the box covers

not much left to do.. should have the rest out tomorrow ready to take to the sandblasters when i get a chance too,

will also take the seats to the motor trimmers

and the brake lines to the mechanics to get new ones made up

are there any upgrades to the brake lines people suggest while i have the chance ? different guage lines or fittings ?

yeah the floor on the inside is flat as far as i can tell

did some more work on it today, and i tell you what its going to go back together alot easier than it is coming appart, spent quite awhile with the rear towbar..

also removed the dash
windscreen
steering wheel
pedal box
aftermarket alternator bracket
accelrator pedal
numberplate light

i also got most of the way through removing the panel underneath the car for the petrol tank, but i couldnt get one bolt out.. will need to get the grinder onto that one..

all thats left is removing the petrol tank and the rear tail lights on the moke, and to dismantle the rear subframe and then i can take everything to the sandblasters,

i opened up the petrol tank and removed the filter tube and the steel gauze at the end has had it and needs replace and from what i could see there was was a bit of debree inside the tank.. whats the best way for fixing this ? i assume its not rusted through as there was petrol inside still,

while i have the petrol tank out.. what is recomended i do to it ?

Nick,

There is a product you can bu, I cant remember the name of it, but a lot of the classic bike restorers use it to clean out the accumulated gunk in their bike fuel tanks - apparently it works wonders. My brother used it on his Yammie tank which had been sitting for years and cleaned it up just like new!!

I will try and find the name of it for you.

Good work too mate!!

Cheers,
Tricky

Those floors are an earlier quick & dirty replacement. Real floors have ribs in them.

The joint between the front of the floor and the firewall is very important. It is a box section that the end of the subframe attaches to. I have seen too many that have been repaired badly and the box is gone.

I would suggest you check that the car still has the triangular "sills" that are formed by the join between the vertical floor pressing sides and the angled side box sides. These are also important for the structure but are often removed when the rust is repaired.

Since you are doing an engine conversion I assume that originality isn't important for this build. Still, I would think its future value and strucutal integrity would be higher if you tried to get the right repair panels.

Might be worth checking underneath to see if they haven't just put the flat sheet straight over the top of the original floor. Could be some nasty things in between otherwise
