Hallsey, I don't mean to hijack your thread for this but for the sake of providing info to the masses...

CL88MN - I have just completed this task with my Mini over the weekend (except that I didn't weld the bracket to the column)
See details on my latest blog post http://mearcatmini.blogspot.com/2011/10/starlet-mini-steering-columns.html

Hey Hallsey,

Where did you source the replacement TMIC cover from?

The other thing is... how did you end up melding the SAAS steering wheel to the Starlet cluster?

Cheers with Beers (especially because it's a Ftiday!)

Hey Zulu
cover is a standard 4efte cover, my original cover was stuffed and i scored this one from Tricky (archangel007)

As for the steering wheel i cut the bottom off the original starlet wheel and mated it to the bottom of the saas wheel

With the saas wheel on i then welded the starlet column bracket onto the
mini steering column( or check out mearcats good idea)at the point where the self canceling part of the switch gear was

Hope that makes sense , I cant find a photo of it after i done it

Hi Gordo , cars been rego'd all along ,i just have to get a RWC and go to vic roads and get the engine number changed over (sounds easy doesnt it)

So, Hallsey, after four long years, was it worth it??

How does it drive? Does Simply Red live up to expectations??

Cheers,
Tricky

Tricky ol sock ,after 4 long years it was well and truly worth it although
there were times when i could easily have given up on the hole thing

The car is all that i hoped for and more,if you drive it sedatly its just like
any other small modern car ,but plant the foot and all hell breaks loose

Its certainly puts the sense's into overdrive

Very very happy

Cheers Hallsey

Hi all
just thought i'd put a post up for all the people thinking about a conversion.
My car has been on the road for just over 12 months now ,being faultless throughout exept for a slight oil leak at the oil pressure gauge.

I cant tell you how much fun these things are to drive, i've taken the car out 4 times over the last couple of weeks after not being able to drive the car for 2 1/2 months due to a bout of cancer and i still cant get the smile off my face.

I took a guy for a spin today who has a 6 litre DB9 aston and he said although his car has plenty of poke and is luxurious its only half the fun of the mini

Hope this encourages some people in thier builds and to enjoy life
