Well I wasted $200 today.. Took my subframes to a sand blaster that the powdercoaters recommended, then took them back to the powdercoaters for them to say they needed them primed otherwise the powder coat doesnt stick well.
so i took them back to the sandblaster for them to say thats bullshit and that even if they did prime it their primer wouldnt standupto the high temperatures of powdercoating process, So they recommended me to another powdercoater. I went there and they said they wanted it primed too and they wanted to re-sandblast as they others hadnt done a great job/it was already starting to go rusty so i left it with them.

They quoted me $343 to re-sandblast and powdercoat the front and rear subframe and 5 brackets
i think thats a little extortionate? or is this normal ?

also on that note.. what colour should i paint my rear trailing arms and my top arms ?

I don't think my front subframe was that much to sand blast and powder coat. Had a quite a few bits done at the same time same colour.
That said I'm sure it's not the greatest job, as another place I use actually blast/ zinc plate then powder coat the bits that are semi exposed to the elements

ok so today i managed to find a fabricator who modified my Moke seats for me, and then i dropped them off to add to the subframes..
heres some quick pics of them before they head off to get Sandblasted/powdercoated

Image

they cut the top part off and capped the pipes, and also tidied up some welds

Image

i then took them to the Powdercoaters

got my act together and bought a grinder to get the petrol tank panel off, and off it came!

tank came out with ease (although the drain plug is stuck good), tank on the outside seem to be in good condition, although inside is a little rusty.

i have bought a POR15 Fuel Tank Repair kit to remedy this,

this plate also fell out when i removed the tank.. any idea what it was used for ?

Image

this is where it went.. pretty clean no real rust..

and i also got the frames i sent to the powdercoaters

Image

although i forgot the brackets i left there.. :/ will need to get onto that asap !

Good luck with the head rest problem

I wouldn't be trying to remove that drain plug, you'll cause more problems than it's worth.

What year is the moke? if it's an earlier model it may not fall under the ADR requirements.

i wouldn't recommend doing this. You will loose all insurance and be liable if you had an accident. Being a modifed car they will check everything has been ticked off before they pay up. Last thing you want on ur pride and joy.

as for that plate in your pics, its the backing plate for the alloy roll cage bolts.

subframes look very nice,,,did you weld a gusset on the bend on the passenger side of the subframe?

Headrest became a requirement after 73.
Could be earlier/later, but you're definitely in the thick of headrest compliance
