Hi all,

Dutchy’s mini 2.0 has started and it’s something a little bit different to the usual engine conversions on here or that I have seen on other forums too.

In summary;
1961 Morris mini with an EJ255 5spd manual. Mid mount RWD

Donor car: 2010 (MY11) WRX. Bought complete to ensure I have all the nuts and bolts I need to make this happen.

Here’s some photos of the cars and project progress so far.

That was the easy part. Now the fun begins in building the chassis & subframe.
I even threw in the seats and steering wheel to se what the future looks like.

This looks like a very interesting project. I'm not sure how the Vic rego scheme works, will it be classified as an ICV? Looking forward to following your progress.

Are you using the wrx box? There's a 2wd/fwd subaru gearbox available that I think bolts up to an ej.
I couldn't see from the photo but how close do the driveshafts line up with the position of the wheels?

As i am not building a chassis from scratch it is not an ICV. The applicable codes will be LA2, LB1, LG2 , LS6 and LH5/6.
And yes it will be engineered and road legal.

Generally not. A little impatient
The WRX was a stat write of due to hail damage. apart from that it was a perfect car that drove well too.
Only had 100,300kms on the clock with not one modification to the engine not even a change of exhaust.
Perfect for this project.

Yes I'm using the AWD 5 spd manual box but am converting it to 2WD. quite a few do it when putting the engines into beetles or Kombi's
In one of the pics is the locking collar for the gearbox and the LSD from Subarugears in WA to compliment it.

The driveshafts pretty much line up perfectly with the back wheels.

Wow this is great mate. We will be watching the build.

Maybe invest in some wheelie bars :)
