I picked up an engine, complete with S20 gearbox, loom, intake, ecu and various other bits and bobs for $600
These little engines produce 128HP at 7000rpm and 102ftlb of torque, redlining at 7200
I fitted new valve stem seals, a new head gasket and clutch kit.
Im waiting on a new crank pulley then I can fit the new timing belt kit.

Allspeed from the UK will be supplying the subframe kit and alternator relocation kit needed.
Ordered and now just waiting its arrival.

Nice.. ! http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

What's the significance of the S20 gearbox?

Do you have plans to install a taller final drive ratio?

Most of these engines came out in autos, thats the only big deal about the S20. Means my Ecu is for a manual engine not auto. No plans at this stage to change the final drive, I believe it will be good for open road cruising which will suit as we live rurally.
Very good article.

Reason I ask about the final drive is that it's likely to be above 4:1, OK for a Honda on 15" wheels, not so good for a mini.. my long term (but getting closer) D series project has a 4.3:1 FD. I'd like to get my hands on a 3.2:1 which was an option in USA, there are also various aftermarket but $$. I wonder if NZ has a good supply...

How do you tell what you have? Is it just an internet search kind of deal? What frame are you using? The Allspeed or something else. I’d love to see pictures of yours. ( not in a creepy predator way ) Haha

Internet search should find it, if you can figure out specifically what car it came out of, or the "put it in 4th and count the turns" method, assuming that 4th gear is 1:1 (or close enough)

I've looked at a lot of subframes - allspeed does look good and there are many people who have copied them - I'm to do the same.. there are a few things I'd like to do a bit differently, not that theirs is wrong - it's obviously in a lot of cars and doing fine - I just like doing things the hard way.... and apparently I also like taking 15+ years to do them.

No pictures of what I'm doing - none exist... again, very little actual progress....

What is the allspeed frame going to cost when it's landed?

I can't quite tell with them - do they allow the use of rubber cones (should) and dampers in the standard position? (can't tell)

I’ve opted for sea freight as the air freight has just exploded. All up the frame and sundries, the bottom arms etc and the alternator relocation kit….with the freight I’m looking just around the $2800 NZD.
Yes to rubber cones etc, you just use their bottom arms and tie bars, helps with clearance issues on full lock.

$2800 sounds very reasonable... tempting even.... damn

Ordered an intake manifold that requires no modifications to either it or the engine bay, and as a plus all the hose connections are at the rear, nice and clean looking.

Woah, that’s great value. Considering getting an A-series rebuilt can easily cost that (or much more)

Good luck with it! These D-series seem to be great motors, just somewhat living in the shadow of the loud B-series, so it feels like they fly under the radar

Yeah, the frames at the painters now, feels like it’s been there forever.
I’m contemplating putting a Procharger on it, gets you close to 300hp with 200ftlb of torque.
Call me crazy.
