Has anybody heard of the 660 engine/gearboxes being installed in a mini. I would like to stick with the theory of the 848 and keep it small but technically better than the original. Any help would be appreciated.

The suzuki cappacino runs a 660cc donk. Just a SMALL bike motor really. Next time you see one have a look at the tacho. Damn thing revs to 15,000.

There is a whole class of racing in Japan called the Micro class. Rumour has it 150hp can be had out of these motors with minimal modifications.

Back to the question. I haven't heard of it being done....and I like others have searched far and wide. That's not to say it hasn't been done though. you could always be the first.

engine power and fuel economy are the two ideas for a conversion of this magnitude similar or better power and superior gearbox and engine design 5l/100k's sounds good to me and all opinoins are welcome it is my car and what i do is my choice but we are all allowed to think and say what we like here

for what its worth, kei is not a model of car, it's actually a class.

pretty much every make of car in the land of the rising sun, has at least one kei car.

Thank you for all the help people has anybody seen or know where i can find actual facts about a kei type engine/gearbox swap into a mini. I am looking at one of the suzuki engines as they represent the best power and torque figures as all kei class engines are limited to 50Kw but can quite easily achieve alot more with some basic mods.

Yes the Kei class cars were a way to get cheap insurance in Japan, and orginally limited to 660cc. Then the manufacturers started sticking on turbos and superchargers, so they imposed a 47kW limit. Some engines put out a bit more than this, but the factory spec still says 47kW (a bit like the 204kW max. for all engines).

There is a honda city turbo engine in the For Sale section.
I'm not aware of anyone actually doing a Kei class engine, but there has been much talk about the Nissan March SuperTurbo (sort of like a Micra but with turbo and supercharger) and the Suzuki Alto Works (using its AWD system).

Using a smaller, lighter engine should make it easy to pass inspection, and braking/handling should improve. Go for it

i was at pick n payless a few months ago, and checked out a Daihatsu mira.
The Miras have a 659cc engine in them and it's EFI too! I think they cam with a turbo bolted onto them in Japan. BUt i hvne't seen any turbo ones here in Aus.

These are AIR cooled turbos!! no FMIC for these!!
