Post subject: | Toyota 4A motors? |
Has anyone on this forum, or has anyone you know of tried squeezing a 4A motor (4ag(z/t)e into their mini? (Clubby preferred). Or what about using the front brake setup off an ae82 or similar corolla to fit on their mini? I am quite sure the stud pattern is the same, I have no idea what sized disks they have though, so I don't know if they'd fit? I am sorry, I have no mechanical knowlege, but I just came across a cheap wreck with very low kms on the motor and though that I'd ask the silly questions that you see above. Thanks in advance for your advice/help/sledging! ![]() D |

The forced induction 4agze 4agte? would be illegal in most states. The naturally aspirated 20 valve would be a goer, but it is very tall. You would need a custom bonnet! I have seen pics of a Moke with one of the donks fitted in the rear but! ![]() |

Cool, thanks for the speedy reply. The wrecked one was a 4age (20v silver top) - so NA. I might just keep my eyes open for a cheap 4efte if I'm going to need a replacement bonnet. What about the brakes though? No go there either? |

Just another thought, it might be possible to lean the engine back far enough to clear the bonnet? Have a look at the way that VTEC is being done on this site. If you measure the height between the centre line of the driveshaft output & the top of the cam cover, you could compare it to the Honda (it is quite a tall motor too). |

I think you would have to go into a fair amount of customisation to load the discs especially if it is similar to the starlet where there are no top wishbones and runs mcphersons strut. Plus I think AE's run 15" rim standard or is it 14" either way big changes. Possible but how longs a piece of string? |

Warwick Agustin has had a race Mini for years with a 4AGE in it. It sits on a Mini box, and drives it by chain.. ![]() There's some info in mods forum? somewhere. Last time I saw it at Wakefield Pk, it's practice time was better than Borg's VTEC... ![]() |

The big problem with the 4A series engines is the huge gearbox, too big to fit a Mini without major chopping of the floor and moving the steering rack etc. The AE82 Corolla uses a 4x100mm PCD. Minis use a 4" or 101.6mm PCD. Which basically means Mini rims will not fit on a Corolla and vice versa. Although this is a common mistake, as the wheels look like they fit. Hope this helps. |

Cool, thank youi all so much again guys. This is by far the most informative and friendly forum that I have ever been associated with. It is great to receive highly informative, friendly and useful responses to my seemingly silly questions. Thank you all so much again. Will continue to look down other avenues, but it seems the starlet or swift gti conversions seem to be the easiest/safest conversions thuis far. |

I was looking at fitting a 4AGE before I did my 4efte they are about 60mm longer than a 4efte and could be made to fit but need to cut inner gaurds out and I didn't what to do that. The gearbox of a 20v is the same size a 4efte box just a slighty different bell housing. |
