Post subject:  Gear linkages (Update 7/12/05)

Guys,

Can anybody help me by letting me know what the distance is between the two gear linkage connections at the gearbox (when in neutral). The distance is betwwen the two pins where the cables connect. I think it is approximately 50mm can anyone confirm.

Also on the lower lever (the one bolted to the top of the box) does it have a rubber or nylon bush where it interconnects with the gear lever coming out of the box.

I hope this makes sense to somebody

Dan

PS Alternator is in but not much room for the headlight, linkage arm made, bracket pending measurment from above, exhaust manifold plate made awaiting delivery of bends, Subframe complete.

Well done minime, really starting to get somewhere. As for room for the headlight I think it is a common story as mine leaves very little room to the point where I will probably end up hardwiring my headlight on that side!

Unfortunately I can't give you a figure as I ended up making a custom arm for the top lever. :(

Thanks JC, exactly what i needed to know.

Can you also check the pin that interlinks the two and see if there is any play or a bush in place. I am unsure if i may have lost a piece when pulling apart as it seems like there is a lot of play.

Dan, You and Andy (Archangel007) are at very similar stages. I was around at his place today checking out his gear changer stuff. All done!

This what you're after?

No play, tight as a nuns one.

Edit: Resized.

Dan,

If you need any help just let me know.

I have just completed this exercise. All you really need to know is that the ratio of the arms is 2:1. That is, whne the arm is pulled or pushed by the cable say 2cm then the pin moves the other actuator arm by 1cm.

Myself and Matt had to make up a complete new upper arm assembly to get it to fit.

Regards,
Andrew

Well I just finished re-assembling the linkages and testin the gear stick, its all good. I still have to mount the gear stick in the car and run the cable through the fire wall, maybe tomorrow night.

I cut the standard bracket and reversed it and welded on top, this moved the cable end back by 50mm to coincide with the linkage being moved across by 50 mm.

Here is the alternator, again very tight i still need to check the headlight.

Thanks for the input guys.
