it probably wont be too loud for registration purposes...so you prolly wont have to worry about it...whats the max allowed by DoT? 90 decibells? thats a fair bit of noise... |

tighly rolled chicken wire may be better....steel wool can catch fire 
(oops, don't say the F word around Matt  )
Something like this will add backpressure and should only be done as a temporary measure (not for years in an off-road bike like me  )
You may have to put another type of muffler on or add another in the line if the inspectors get too uptight

It's a compromise Matt. Unfortunately when you want something to flow it's going to be loud (er). However, having said that, there are a brand of US muffler that guarantees a certain percentage power increase and is also good for keeping it quite. The name of the mob exscapes me atm. Not cheap stuff tho. Comes down to ye' old saying "You can't keep horsepower quiet". |

Yeah I will push it out onto the driveway and give her a run. Pity I hope I don't have to silence it as it sounds bloody awesome. Also no weed which is an encouraging sign. Also the smoke from the turbo seems to have gone so maybe it was just oil on the surface from the supply pipe? By the way makka I have a video for download on my site of the thing running if ya interesed... |

my wife thinks every car ive had sounds like 747 and that she can smell the exaust inside the house. 
From my experiance it means she wants you to come back inside and stop playing with your mini

you could also stick a high-flow resonator or high-flow cat on. arent you required to have a cat though due to emissions rules? |

GZ I know what you mean but my wife has been ridiculously patient. And DTrain, I was advised by my engineer that due to the age of the car (and yes irrespective of the age of the engine or the fact that it came equipped with a cat) I don't need the car, but that this only applies to cars prior to 1972 (mine's a 71) so I just get under the wire...

just stick a resonator on (longer the better) but will resrict flow no doubt - either that or trade in your wife for another mini
