I have a 1977 Clubman 998cc pretty much stock I believe, and I wanted to know what mods I could do to perfromance to make it perform better....

I have been offered a 12g295 head for $350:
it has new valve stem seals, polished valves and already about 80thou skimmed off it.
Has been hot bathed, blasted, has double valve springs... just needs the rocker gear from my existing head.

Would that be a good option?

All help appreciated thanks Ian :D

Take the motor out....

Wrap a chain around it.....

Throw it overboard!

Mini motors - I have no idea..... Question may be best directed in the A/A+ mods section.

If you do want to keep your mini "original" (ie with a A series) go the 12G295 head, I have heard that even in standard form on a 1100 (don't know if this is true or not but it easier to make power with more cubic inches) but it can give you another 8hp at the crank.

When you only have about 38hp to start off with that's a big improvement already!

A head is one of two (main) ways to make power in a small bore mini. The original head your engine came with would have shrouded valves which are very restrictive.

The other way to make power is with the cam.

Another option down the line:-
I have also replaced my asthematic single 1 1/4" SU with some twin HS2's (twin 1 1/4") topped off with K&N filters, that along with some extractors (I got Maniflow St/Steel 1.75" ones) is a VERY good increase in power and torque at a resonable price.
