Hi there has anyone attempted this yet, i want to start Brad is an inspiration, among others, but can it be done, has anyone attempted it, it would look so cool, im considering but i think im just dreamin!

Anything can be done, but it would be a mission. It is actually a really big motor, and would mean some major reconfiguration of the front end. Not a job to be undertaken lightly, but don't let that stop you

Well the bigest problem.. is... its not legal... I wanted to do this before i started Bigbad... But the simple fact is you aint aloud to put a 2L Turbo in a mini.. 2L NA no problem... 1.6L Turbo No Problem... But not 2L Turbo |

that is just devastating wow would it be possible to just remove the turbo and retain the 4wd it would be cool but i suppose you would know, also good work on big bad, you must be proud, i saw the dyno run!!! that was excellent!

It could be done. Although It is significant amount of work. I would suggest it shouldn't be your first effort at an engine conversion as you will be learning quite alot along the way. We were only talking about this yesterday. We currently have three cars on the build at the moment. The third one is REALLY benefitting from two prior stages of development. |

there has been one done, in the uk tho. the guy who did it is on the 16vminiclub forum, the whole car just doesn't look right. just got back from the mt buller sprint and having gone up and down the mountain a number of times driving different cars over the weekend the pulsar being one of them i really am not a big fan of them at all! way too much understeer, don't know how much of that could be dialed out of it with trick suspension work cos the motors are so big and heavy.... |

The guy in the UK didn't 'put' the motor in a mini but rather cut the top off a GTi-R and sat a mini shell ontop of the GTi-R chassis. Damn thing looks like a hotwheels car. I had all this gear to put into a mini. Motor, 2 boxes, 2 diffs, tailshaft and rear diff assembly. It would have been a challenging exercise but too time consuming so I sold it all (competing priorities forced my hand). It will only fit in a Clubman and even then it will be a tight squeeze. I think the only 'real' convern would have been the steering column. The motor itself isn't that much bigger than a Starlet motor and they aren't a great deal heavier. I lifted a motor out of the back of a car myself a couple of weekends ago. Didn't have turbo,a/c, alt, p/s on it up but the throttle bodies and plenum was still on it. Its all the other gear upfront that (incredibly heavy gearbox and seperate diff) that contributes to the understeer. As suggested 'could' be fixed by suspension work and possibly changing the torque split on the diff to put more power to the back. I have no doubt in my mind that had I gone through with this car it would have been in a league of its own. I mean, imagine having a car weighing 750kg's with 200hp at all four wheels. Having said that, if I wanted wanted to go awd there are plenty of other options available. I think Brad has the right idea in trying to source a very 'compact' solution with the Kei class cars or as someone else mentioned the other day the Suzuki Alto Works. No amount of front wheel drive horsepower could keep up with a well sorted moderately powered AWD mini. |
