Hey everyone,

Just another quick update.

I've had my dad over the last few weeks to do the body work and to help me with the flip front and to paint it .
Here's a few pics of my flip front which was really starting to P/$$ me off but it does'nt look to bad(there not as easy as they look to build).

We've decided to make it hinge from the front for now and had to make a new section on the front to clear my frame when the bonnets open.

I have'nt really figured out how im going to latch it yet. Thought about adapting door poppers with a button inside but still need some sort of latch to hold it there, and bonnet pins but dont really like the look of pins sticking out the top of the bonnet so if anyone has any ideas let us know would be appreciated

you can get bonnet pins that mount flush with the bonnet here in nz, they use sort of a solex door lock key to open them, go a pic of them somewhere on our commodore

get a doot latch off a vn commodore with its remote soliod and fit that in the center of your bonnet.Put a couple of locator pin on the inside of the bottom of each guard. then you only need a push buttom inside the car to open it. thats the way i have seen it on some hotrods.

That is looking good, I'll give you a thumbs up for the work with the flip front because i reckon that would take a lot of mucking around.

Hey Steve,

Nice work. I bet your Dad was keen to get involved.

Just make sure you use plenty of stays on that front-end, to stop it twisting and warping.

Looks great BTW.

Cheers,
Tricky

Thanks all

We've finished painting it besides flares which i have'nt chosen yet and has come out pretty well for my first paint job, just needs to be rubbed down with 1200 and given a buff.

My tip if your going to have a go at painting a car yourself is to definetly buy a good gun, mine cost $460 i think and was worth every $.

Slo-firo do you have any pics of those bonnet clips or even a brand name would great.

heres the key lock type that slo_firo mentioned.....

here is another type of bonnet pin or "hood latch" which is compleatly flush mounted....
http://www.deftracing.com/aerocatch_hood_pins/index.htm

i think this second type is very neat tho on a mini it may be a touch large.
although with your full flip front, you could mount them somewhere other than the bonnet, ie: A panels, to make it look smoother. and seeing as you can buy lockable versions of them too, its worth considering....

my 2c.

I think the second option looks wicked but don't got a lockable pin. Fitting lockable pins is not a good idea. Imagine your pride and joy going up in a cloud of smoke becuase the race marshall couldn't get the bonnet open.

Ill wait and see how much they charge me for shipping with the aerocatch latches, because the ones on the Aus ebay want around $170 delivered, there a good design though.

if your looking at latches have a look at dzus fastners, they make some good variant's to the bonnet pin
