Post subject:  Does size realy mater?

Hi all'
in my quest for knowledge into my retro fit,i read a peice on wheel size.
in the past ive run a mini with 13/7/45's with the huge 250mm fleared guards- looked tuff, abit hard to steer going slow but it was relitively hard on the baerings.......

i'm running 15's at the moment with a 195/45/15 that dont rub and look fantastic for steel rims, the intercepter look.

so if i were to go the Honda option would it be ok to keep running the 15's or should i go back to a more ortherdox wheel size as the drive line load will have incresed 10 fold. stupid as you may think i am i drive like a lunatic and the moke has a direct link to my brain and knows exactly were i want her to go and do, like an extra external body part (what the?.....i know, i know.)

ive got the fastest lap at hidden valley for a moke.
Come to think of it ive also got that for the

XG panel van (ford)ex VIC divy van
Range Rover 87 high line- 195kw HSV motor fitted/5speed
Magna 96 mdl auto
Capri 93 mdl
& the ZX600R is well it is what it is............theres so little run off for quick bikes.

Any how let me know what i should be doing.

ps ive also got 15"simmons that i ran for 2mnths but i found more people wanted them more than i did.
thank goodness my ignition is stronger than a screwdriver.

So does size realy matter :?

I think big wheels on a Honda Conversion would probably be a good idea. The motor and gearbox are designed for certain ratios. I've heard the Honda Mini's tend rev a bit high for some speeds due to this, having said that, most Honda Mini's have Mini sized wheels.

I'm doing a Starlet conversion (ever so slowly as money comes in) and will be using normal 12x5 alloy wheels. I don't care about what RPM various speeds are at, it has a 5th gear, I just want to get to those speeds as fast as I can.

I reckon run with the standard sized wheels from the donor car, It's what the factory thought was best

It keeps the speedo correct anyway.

Carl,

Its a matter of personal opinion. I am running 14 x 6JJ Enkei's on 4 Paw and IMHO they look fanatstic. Mind you, I have seen a mini with 15's on it and it looked overdone and kind of silly!

Its a bit different for a moke, but for a mini to run anything over 12's, requires guard alterations, hence why a lot of people shy away from it.

Once again, its up to you, but I would take up Ken's advice and be guided by what the factory thought should be there!

Cheers,
Tricky

Post subject:  iv'e got 15"s

thank's for the feedback,
15's look tuff on the moke,
and ive had 13's on a brick-that looks super tuff.
12's are a crap for tyres unless you live in the big smoke.
i'll try post some pics today if i can work out how to.
