This may benefit a few of the guys getting to this stage and me seeing as i now need another set. (Checkout thread in spotted). So whose done what. List what companies you used, how long they took to make them and price. I'm looking for somewhere to do up some billet shafts. Will ring around tommorow and suss it out. |

Mr. Enforcer got his done, but they took a couple of months and i thought it wouldn't hurt to get a few different places to choose from. |

I would like to know more about driveshafts as I will need some shafts made or modified for Suzuki moke, it came with new Suzuki shafts which I understand have to be resplined to suit the moke hubs and then re heat treated. Are there people in Victoria (or even Gippsland) who can do this? I presume they will need the moke to get the correct length or are they able to work from measurements? |

Should there be a concern of making shafts interstate and sending to others with a 4E-FTE conversion? What happens of one person makes a subframe so that the engine sits 10mm further left/right than another person. Will the two cars need different length driveshafts, rendering the idea of making multiple sets usless? |

Mearcat, you would simply measure and then get them made to length, the splines on each eand are going to be the same, you just increase or decrease the length depending on the frame. When Dan and I measured ours we were within ~4mm of each other, it would be interesting to see the length most people have come up with because you pretty much have to have the engine in one spot or close enough to it, the gearbox and lining up the driveshafts with the hubs dictates this as down the pulley's on the drivers side. |

In Perth : Final Drive in O'Conner. He has a guy next door who does them. For 2 shafts, Cut/respline is $350-450. Billet shafts is $900-1000. He doesn't need the car but will need inner CV's, shafts & required shaft lengths. Verriers in Bayswater. I phoned him and he said he would need to see the Starlet shafts to give me a price but he will do custom ones - not out of billet, but he orders the diameter steel required because billet is only required if you need flange on the end (which makes sense) and puts the machines the splines on the end. If it comes to the crunch and you need to get your car to a workshop in Perth, I can probably help you out shifting/trailering it around. Although I'd be surprised if you couldn't find someone in Kal to do it, given all the mining equipment & 4WDs -Alan |

Hi guys! after 2 weeks I'm back!.. two weeks of nothing to do now! yay!.. more time for the car 
I got mine done by Slider Engineering in South Australia ( cuz I'm in SA).. cost me $600 for a set of billetshafts made from 4340 steel. Working well so far

Another quote (Perth, WA) : Found a guy who works from home and does axles & shafts for local drag cars. Just phoned him : en25 steel, heat treated/hardened, splined $600-650 Verbal quote based on 2 shafts (540mm & 330mm length) & ~25mm diameter. -Alan |

Speaking of driveshafts, I believe it would be useful to have a thread/tutorial/How-to/something on how to accurately measure driveshaft lengths, so at least those people with less than 100% (ie. Me  ) mechanical knowledge but still want to save themselves a few hundred $ on getting someone else to measure them can do it themselves & learn at the same time. How do the experts/workshops do it?
Some photos of the process would be nice too. Textual descriptions aren't always the best. |
