Hi it's a stupid question I know but when doing a starlet conversion why don’t they us an EP95 AWD starlet and make an AWD Mini. there are a couple of EP95's in Aus but they cant be registered here for some reason so they should be cheap the rear end is just a cart axle style so it would need to be narrowed but powering out of a corner with all 4's smoking would be great. it's been suggested a few times, but no-one has been game yet. I am very slowly working on an AWD based on a Honda Civic... have a look at www.ringmini.de |

I think the aprehension is the knowledge and the fabrication skills required to set up the rear suspension. Updating the Mini engine with another up front is relatively straightforward as the overall suspension setup/design can be retained but I'm sure there's much more work involved in the design and fabrication of a suitable rear subframe (or an IRS setup??) that works well and integrated properly for use with an All Wheel Drive system. I would attempt (and am doing so) the Starlet GT conversion in the front but would baulk at any more than using the standard Mini "building blocks" |

Itd be a lot more expensive fabrication wise. And youd need to design and build a rear frame to carry the rear diff as well as mounting everything else. I wouldve done it but ive started a FWD starlet conversion. |

Also it will be harder to get engineered, because less of the Mini's original suspension and "crossmembers" (subframes) is retained. But I'm sure it can be done. |
