Post subject:  Mini engine conversion costs??

Hi Guys,

After having this accident,

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61688

with that person running me up the bum, Im just investigatiing wheatehr the money i get from it, plus what i have left, I can fund for a some sort of conversion in bluey my other mini.

I have all new parts, like gaskets, high flow water pump, dual timing chain, new bearings, 1100n blocks, heads, cams, gearboxes all in working order, even disc brakes ready to put on etc etc but Im wondering what ROUGHLY a build would cost me with what I have, and what needs to be done.

Suzki Build?
Twinky Build?
Honda V Tech Build?

I'm after a engine with nice numbers, with some good punch something that attracts attention, ands got something to punch out with, ( if you know what I mean)

I think they are more only options for price rangeish? I'm just wondering what each would be worth, if they are available from someone, (speaking to the miniman as we speak) and depending on how much they costing, If i sell or trade what I have can fund for the conversion. Could someone advise me on what they know?

Thankyu guys!!

I wouldn't bother looking at cost and making a budget. It's going to be expensive and the less reciepts you need to count the happier you will be.

didn't they say you're only getting a grand payout for the car - you'd need to have least 9 more accidents...

I used to be of the opinion one could do it for $5k. I would lean towards ten. When you see these converted cars come up for $11-$12k snap them up.

Considering what you already have I'd say;
-Twinky head (Kits available and you already have half the stuff needed)
-Suzuki or starlet (more people have done starlets and kits are available)
-Vtec (heavy donk, not many around)

yeah thats what i was hoping for. I'm thinking with what I already have a twinky kit is the way to go, but I have no idea how much one is going to cost me, the kit, then the head, and whatever else I need to get.

That why I need help in this department, becuase I have no idea in this field really. I'm knoledgeable in the orginal mini engine department. :)

I have a complete running 998cc (+.080") power unit 4-sale here... it`s still in my daily road mini

this one is on quad motor-bike carbs, but they`re best on injection for bonnet clearance tho

It will sell for $4000 (without the bike carbs) but will come with the quad throttle bodies

that is the whole power unit, gearbox, diff, head, motor, radiator, complete & ready to take out of this mini & fit into your mini ... & i will even throw in the extractors & a late mini injection fuel tank, & a compatable high pressure fuel pump (new) with it

Buy & an "Adaptronic" ECU & you`re away

these twinkys would cost you more than that to build

the last one we built for a customer was $8000,,, the one before that was $12,000 & the turbo injected one in the Moke cost $15,000

the price varies quite conciderably depending on your "Wish-list" of bits & what you want the engine to do,,,as in--->road --race--turbo etc

MY own personal turbo twinky race donk has already gone past $25,000 & it`s still not built yet :-(

My starlet conversion has hit 10 grand, and you can see where it is atm.
Matts twinky 998 is a great buy, if I had the spare cash id be getting that. and it'd be fine on a clubby front with the throttle bodies.
