what do you guys think of the f6a for a conversion? is there a smaller toyota turbo engine than a 4efte? it's just seems general concensus is the build quality of a toyota engine is crazy like my friends have a camery thats done 380000ks still going strong?!

The F6A is out of the Suzuki Cappuccino..think.? 660cc 3-cyl Turbo..

What is it going in Thom? the van?

I think it's not worth it for sunch a small motor unless your just after reliability and economy..even then i think a much newer motor would be better..at least a K10A - 1L 4cyl..makes about 100HP - with the option to up the boost when you want power or leave it for economy :)

would the k10a fit in the mini? or would a 4efte be a better option i just wanted something slightly smaller than the 4efte for installs sake!
thinking of putting it in the van or alternately keeping the van stock and buying another roundy donor shell

Go the Daihatsu GZE.

Daihatsu is virtually the small engine division of Toyota anyway,
and have a deserved reputation for reliability.

Problem i see with the GZE is that it's not very powerful..why go to all that hassle?

Paul's gze made 37.9HP on the MDU Dyno and My 1152 made 40HP a fairly stock 1275 would make more power and more torque. The A-series isn't exactly unreliable in that sort of trim, especially enough to consider a transplant. Economy isn't as good, but it ain't bad either.

I've also never had a problem with my highly worked 1152.

I also think parts would eventually get harder being that Daihatsu are no longer with us..even though toyota carries on the namesake try going to your toyota dealer and getting parts.

That's my 2c

i think the f6a would be a good conversion it would be easy and makes more power then the sirion motor i used + with easy external mods like exaust boost even turbo change , it will make as much power as a g13b

Im also considering making a frame for this conversion in the future

the sirion motor i used isnt too bad although the power isnt high its there straight away and you dont have to rev its tits off to get it going

Im still sticking with my clutch pin being too long causing my clutch to slip, i think she had 45hp in her lol

just my 2cents

Someone please do an Echo conversion for me...then I will stop wondering

Engine Type 1.5-liter 4-cylinder twin cam DOHC 16-Valve EFI, cast iron block with aluminum head
Horsepower 108 HP @ 6000 RPM
Torque 105 ft./lb. @ 4200 RPM
Fuel Recommended Regular 87 Octane Unleaded.
Transmission 5-speed manual transmission standard
Tires P175/65R14
Curb Weight = 4-Door 5-Speed 2030lb (900kgs approx), (w. Auto, 2080) 2-door is 10 lb. Less
Miles Per Gallon EPA city 34, hwy 41.
Acceleration 0 to 60MPH = 8.8 seconds

Looks like it would be a smooth, strong package to me :D

Alas Echo's are twice to three times girlier than a starlet and therefor most people would stay away from them. Personally I would rather see a 13b rota-moke and a SR20 clubbie first :D :D They would be FFAASSSTTT

An engine can be girly  ....well I never :!:

With around 300 kgs less weight to push around and with the torque of a 1500....I think it would be a sweet ride....I suppose there would also be some hot-up potential there as well.

I didn't mean for you to take it the wrong way. I just feel if your going to go the whole effort of a conversion, you'd want a really big headturner. Echo's Aus Spec are pretty poor. and I think they'd be hard to get a 1/2 cut of landed this way. Your welcome to try :D :D I'd still like it

Hugh...you are starting to sound like the woman I married!!

Not upset at all, just TIC :D

If you don't think just any modern engine in a 30-40 year old body would be a head-turner....then thats where we can agree to disagree

Have to agree with 9YaTaH - The Echo/Yaris 1.5 looks like a good choice if you don't want a turbo. It should go very well and parts should never be a problem.

Conversion looks easier than a 4EFTE as it's more compact and likely to have done less km than the older Suzuki GTi engines.
